FIFA 22 Contract Expiry 2022: Sign Mbappe for FREE in your first Career Mode season

Signing players on Contract Expiry in FIFA 22 Career Mode can feel like a bit of a cheat code, as you are able to bring some of the best players to your club for free!

Bypassing their transfer fee, you only need to worry about the player's wages - and if they want to join your club - so you needn't worry so much about how much money you have in the bank.

Find out all you need to know about Contract Expiry signings below and discover what brilliant players could be yours for free when their contracts expire in 2022.

GOAT Season

Your first Career Mode season can often be the most fun, making signings that mould the team into something with your identity.

However, your second season could be a big one, with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo both having contracts that expire in 2023!

If ageing superstars aren't your thing, then the season after may be right up your street, with Erling Haaland, Matthijs de Ligt and Phil Foden all having contracts that expire in 2024.

What is a Contract Expiry signing?

A contract expiry signing is securing a player on a free transfer as the contract with their current club enters its final six months.

You sign the player on what is known as a pre-contract agreement, for the player to join your club on a free transfer when their current contract expires.

You can only sign players this way who have less than six months remaining on their contract, and are over the age of 23.

How to make a Contract Expiry signing on FIFA 22

Making a Contract Expiry signing is the same from FIFA 21 and previous versions of the FIFA franchise, it will go as follows:

Wait until 1 January 2022 - players whose contracts run out in the first season can be approached from this point.

Search for your player - head to the transfers tab to get the man you want, and add him to your shortlist.

Head to your shortlist on the Transfer Hub and press "Approach to Sign".

Negotiate a deal - given you don't need to pay a transfer fee, you can afford to be a bit more generous in wages (Aaron Ramsey's move to Juventus earned him £400,000 a week).

Wait until the next season - your player will join your club at the start of the 2022/23 season.

Kylian Mbappe (OVR 91 - POT 95)

Age: 22

Position(s): ST, LW

Club: PSG

Wage: £198,000 a week

As things stand, Kylian Mbappe - the world's most valuable player - will be available for a free transfer in the summer of 2022.

Not only is he one of the best players in the game, but his potential will make him THE best in a couple of seasons.

If you can afford the high wage bill, we suggest you do everything to get him in your squad.

Paulo Dybala (OVR 87 - POT 87)

Age: 27

Position(s): CF, RW

Club: Piemonte Calcio (Juventus)

Wage: £138,000 a week

Paulo Dybala is at a crossroads in his career.

Aged 27, the Argentine should be in his prime, but netted just five times for Juventus Piemonte Calcio last season - time for a change of scenery?

Luis Suarez (OVR 87 - POT 87)

Age: 34

Position(s): ST

Club: Atletico Madrid

Wage: £99,000 a week

21 goals was a great return in Luis Suarez's first season at Atletico Madrid, and now 34 - you wonder how long left the Uruguayan has at the top.

His OVR has already taken a slight hit since the game was released, and will likely drop rapidly in Career Mode, but if you want guaranteed goals for a season, the former Liverpool and Barcelona man will do nicely.

Paul Pogba (OVR 86 - POT 86)

Age: 28

Position(s): CM, LM, CDM

Club: Manchester United

Wage: £172,000 a week

Paul Pogba is proving quite a conundrum for Manchester United, with sparks of brilliance mixing with individual errors, and lots of talk being around transfer rumours as opposed to wanting to stay at the club.

The Frenchman is an incredible player, and if you're controlling him in FIFA 22 you won't have his form to worry about, just your own.

Angel Di Maria (OVR 86 - POT 86)

Age: 33

Position(s): RW, LW

Club: PSG

Wage: £129,000 a week

In a team with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, Angel Di Maria doesn't receive enough credit at PSG - and you do wonder where the former Real Madrid and Manchester United man could go next.

Now Lionel Messi has joined the PSG front line it's hard to see Di Maria getting much game time, but he is still a top talent that could benefit your club.

Antonio Rudiger (OVR 85 - POT 86)

Age: 28

Position(s): CB

Club: Chelsea

Wage: £133,000 a week

Antonio Rudiger has been a rock for Chelsea since Thomas Tuchel took over, seeing his rating rise to 85 OVR.

There is much speculation surrounding his future at the moment, so you may need to swoop in early to beat other clubs to his signature.

Franck Kessie (OVR 84 - POT 86)

Age: 24

Position(s): CDM, CM

Club: AC Milan

Wage: £44,000 a week

Franck Kessie saw a huge increase from his previous 77 OVR, and is a total powerhouse in midfield.

Only 24, if you're looking for someone who can dominate the centre of the pitch for years to come, look no further.

Ousmane Dembele (OVR 83 - POT 88)

Age: 24

Position(s): RW

Wage: £142,000 a week

Barcelona are still waiting for Ousmane Dembele to fulfil his high transfer price.

Despite playing 30 games last term, the Frenchman scored just six league goals and added only three assists, so the upcoming campaign may be the last chance saloon for him.

Niklas Sule (OVR 84 - POT 86)

Age: 25

Position(s): CB, RB

Club: Bayern Munich

Wage: £82,000 a week

The big Bayern Munich CB has the potential to become one of the top defenders in the game, at 86 OVR.

He will be dominant in the air and bullying players off the ball with his strength and tackling, and despite not being the most agile, still has great 77 Sprint Speed.

Noussair Mazraoui (OVR 82 - POT 86)

Age: 23

Position(s): RB

Club: Ajax

Wage: £17,000 a week

With a very low wage bill, Noussair Mazraoui could be a total steal if you bring him in.

As a RB he has a brilliant mix of pace, defensive ability and skill on the ball, which means he can fill in at most other positions on the field if you need him to.
