With WWE 2K22 just over a month away, fans are getting more and more excited about the possibilities that await them, including the prospect of intergender wrestling.
Now that new game modes like MyGM and MyFACTION that have the potential to deliver, we're looking at whether WWE 2K22 will actually bring back intergender wrestling as a feature.
Will WWE 2K22 have intergender wrestling at all?
We're still hoping for a full WWE 2K22 roster reveal in the coming weeks, but in the interim we've gotten a slow trickle confirming several modern-day superstars and legends of the past.
Among the most exciting inclusions is WWE Hall of Famer Chyna, but some fans are worried they won't be able to relive some of her most important moments.
While she is a former WWE Women's Champion, Chyna is also a 2-time WWE Intercontinental Champion and the only woman to have ever held that prestigious title.
Unfortunately, as of now it looks like you won't be able to put the WWE Intercontinental Championship on Chyna in WWE 2K22, as developers have not said they're bringing back intergender wrestling.
There's plenty of precedent, as intergender matches were allowed in past games that featured Chyna like WWF No Mercy and WWF SmackDown 2: Know Your Role, but it's a feature that has been missing for years and was not brought back when Chyna returned as a character in WWE 2K20.
We're hoping to get more clarity from Visual Concepts ahead of launch, but as of now it looks unlikely that intergender wrestling will be a part of WWE 2K22.
Intergender wrestling could be huge for MyGM and MyFACTION
WWE 2K22 is reviving the beloved GM Mode from the SmackDown vs. Raw series of games as MyGM this year, and adding intergender wrestling would make a huge difference.
While WWE refuses to introduce intergender wrestling as a serious part of their programming, that shouldn't prevent fans from trying these scenarios in the game.
On top of that, many independent wrestling promotions today operate with an entire roster of women, and creating that kind of roster in MyGM may be difficult due to gender restrictions on titles and other barriers.
By comparison, MyFACTION is expected to use some of the mechanics we've seen in online game modes like NBA 2K22 MyTEAM, and that could mean crafting a 4-person group to compete with other groups online.
We know that female superstars will be part of this game mode thanks to the few cards that have been previewed, but it's not clear if players will be stuck creating male-only or female-only squads in MyFACTION.
Opening the door to intergender wrestling would allow more freedom for fans to create their true dream groups in MyFACTION, and it would only improve the challenge by adding more unique superstars to strategize against.
