FC 24 is set to be the newest title released by EA Sports, their first release in the football gaming sphere since their split from FIFA.
FC 24 looks set to introduce a host of new features, but it's looking likely that we will see a casualty in the form of VOLTA's removal.
Will VOLTA be in FC 24?
For those that don't know, VOLTA is a game mode that sees you take your skills to the street and build an Ultimate Team-style squad.
The mode had plenty of merits when it first arrived in FIFA 20, but after three years, people have gotten tired of its formula.
For a long time, it looked as if VOLTA could be axed from EA Sports FC 24, with EA looking to welcome in a new era by stamping their own mark on the franchise.
However, it now looks like the mode will remain for at least another year, with most early leaks for EAFC including the VOLTA mode.
Potential Replacements
The only confirmed new feature leaked for FC 24 is the arrival of online career mode, according to @UTSources on Twitter.
The FIFA community has been calling for an online Career Mode for many years, and many thought their wishes had been answered when a job listing surfaced in the lead-up to FIFA 22 for an 'Online Software Engineer' working on 'online career mode'.
Away from Online Career, we could see a surprise return of The Journey - or a similar narrative-driven mode.
There is a possibility that EA will not look to replace VOLTA, instead focussing on the mainstay modes such as Ultimate Team, Career Mode and Pro Clubs.
Hidden Potential
In FIFA 23, VOLTA was banded in with Pro Clubs in an attempt to make it more appealing to the masses.
Whilst this has worked in some respects, it has served to make VOLTA feel like a gateway, rather than its own thing.
Instead, with EA Sports FC 24 just around the corner, we think EA should be looking to really make VOLTA stand out by harkening back to what worked in the first place.
FIFA Street is a game loved by millions. If it was still playable on next-generation consoles today, you can be sure that it would be a popular seller.
The game introduced many of the hype train trends we see in FIFA today, with the dramatic skill moves and legends making this game feel like the perfect throwback.
New Name, New Era
With the rumoured name change to FC 24, or EA Sports FC, EA may have to make some tweaks to their branding.
Right now, FIFA Ultimate Team - or FUT as it's sometimes known - would have to be rebranded, with EA no longer able to use the FIFA name.
However, if FC 24 is the name that EA go with, we could still see FUT used as an abbreviation for the mode.
