PES 2020: Konami has 'no plans' to add women's football to the game

Konami has confirmed that PES 2020 will not feature women's football - despite the fact the sport is growing in popularity.

Speaking to Gamespot, European brand manager, Lennart Bobzien said: "I personally support the women's game and have been following the World Cup closely.

"However we currently don't have any plans to integrate women into eFootball PES 2020."

It's certainly disappointing to see the women's game omitted enturely from PES 2020.

The England v USA World Cup semi-final during the World Cup had the highest peak audience of any TV show this year in the UK, with 11.7 million people tuning in to BBC One concurrently--a 50.8% audience share.

EA's FIFA series, meanwhile, has been supporting women's football since FIFA 16 - expanding its presence in-game year on year.

FIFA 20 features the licensing rights to feature the FIFA World Cup competitions--for both men and women's teams--so it's unsurprising the tournament hasn't been featured in PES in an official capacity.

The PES 2020 demo will feature Quick Play and Co-op mode as well as an Edit Mode where players will be able to create their kits and teams.

There will be 14 teams in the PES 2020 demo. These include:

  • Barcelona
  • Arsenal
  • Palmeiras
  • Flamengo
  • Sao Paulo
  • Corinthians
  • Vasco da Gama
  • Boca Juniors
  • River Plate
  • Universidad de Chile
  • Colo-Colo
  • Plus three other teams to be confirmed

Expect Manchester United to be one of three additional teams, after partnering with Konami for the first time in three years.
