In a surprise announcement, it seems we will finally see the return of Saints Row next year. After 6 years without a game in the series, we finally saw news of it at Gamescom 2021.
The teases started with the official Saints Row website making little changes to the front page with pieces of graffiti and coded messages. That is until the Gamescom Twitter page shared an image saying "reboot", an almost confirmation. Here's what we know about it so far and when it will release.
Latest - Volition clarify character details
Like in previous Saints Row games, you will take on the role of 'The Boss' but in the trailer for the latest game, this appeared to be a fixed character.
Volition has since stated that you will be able to create and customise your own character like previous games, putting fans as ease in a major way.
Saints Row Out Next Year
At the very start of Gamescom Opening Night Live, it was announced that there is a new Saints Row game on the way and it would release on February 25th, 2022.
This gives just under half a year until we will see it for ourselves.
Saints Row Reboot or Remake?
The writing is on the wall, literally, as the word Rebooting is clearly scrawled across the teaser image from the Saints Row website. Are we to take this literally and assume that the series is going back to its roots and starting again, or could it be high time for a remake of the hugely popular original game from 2006?
It seems that the next Saints Row game will be a reboot of the series in an entirely new area with new gangs and new main characters.
We appear to be getting a dedicated protagonist this time around and all the same wacky humour the series is known for. At Opening Night Live, Geoff Keighley spoke to the main actor to get their opinion on the game and the future of the franchise. You can watch that for yourself right now on their stream.
We will have to wait to see what the team have in store for us in the future.
