FIFA 23: EA suggests English star should make 2022 World Cup squad after major boost in latest roster update

The latest FIFA 23 roster update has now gone live and it looks like EA thinks a certain Englishman should be going to Qatar with the England squad this Winter.

One England midfielder's exceptional form has prompted EA to give out a giant boost in the latest update ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

It remains to be seen whether Southgate will give serious consideration to finding a spot for the midfielder in his 26-man squad for Qatar next month.

Leicester City midfielder James Maddison has been simply outstanding over the course of the past few weeks in the Premier League.

Maddison really hit the headlines last week when he scored twice and set up another goal as Leicester comfortably beat Nottingham Forest 4-0 to secure their first win of the season.

Maddison has been given a +1 to his overall rating, taking him to an 83 OVR with an 85 OVR Career Mode potential.

The Fox's composure, free kick accuracy and agility have all been bumped up by two points to an 86 rating in FIFA 23.

Maddison has also received big boosts to his crossing, stamina, aggression and reactions.

EA has bumped up the Leicester talesman's volleys by three points and his finishing by two points, in recognition of his brilliant striking ability.

The Englishman has also finally been given the 'Free Kick Specialist' trait as well as the 'Acrobat' trait.

Qatar Awaits

Gareth Southgate has repeatedly overlooked Maddison, whose last England appearance came as a substitute against Montenegro in 2019.

Brendan Rodgers has said it would be a shame if Gareth Southgate does not change his stance on James Maddison and recall the midfielder to his England squad for the World Cup.

Maddison is now up there with the highest-rated England midfielders in the game.

His 83 OVR card is better than the likes of James Ward-Prowse, Jordan Henderson, Kalvin Phillips, Emile Smith-Rowe and Conor Gallagher.

So, judging from the latest FIFA 23 update, it seems EA agrees with the Leicester City boss in that James Maddison should be a part of the 2022 World Cup squad this Winter.
