FIFA 22: FUT community calls for EA to hand the GOAT a Flashback to debut season

The Silver Stars Series brings us endless possibilities in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team and the FUT community is loving it.

The popular campaign is only running for a couple more days before the FUT Birthday promo takes over.

So, could EA drop the biggest and best Flashback card of the year in a throwback to the GOAT's first-ever FIFA card before the event is over? We think so...

Silver card for the GOAT?!

Even in Lionel Messi's first year on a FIFA game, he was a Gold card with an overall rating of 78.

So, with the Silver Stars Series in full flow, why not hand the GOAT a first-ever Silver card in FIFA, in the form of a Flashback to resemble his original rating.

EA has already handed some world-renowned players Silver Stars cards in Ultimate Team, with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Paul Pogba being given brilliant special SBCs.

The FUT community clearly wants to see more of this content introduced, and it could be a lot of Ultimate Team players' first and only opportunity to play with the Argentinian legend.

Hot prospect

Hailed as a special talent from a young age, Messi made his debut aged just 17 years old during a Catalan derby against Espanyol in October 2004.

The Argentinian became the second-youngest player ever to make their Barcelona debut at which time the supporters were introduced to a player who would dominate the sport over the next two decades.

Messi scored his first official goal for Barcelona in the La Liga meeting with Albacete at the Camp Nou in May 2005.

Messi was brought on for superstar Samuel Eto’o in the final minutes of the game with the score at 1-0.

He’d only been on the pitch for a couple of minutes when Ronaldinho put him clean through, dinking the ball up for him just inside the box.

Messi finished the move off, beating the goalkeeper with an exquisite, beautifully-weighted lob.

Flashback Lionel Messi (OVR 74)

Lionel Messi's Flashback card would of course be a throwback to his early Barcelona days, but he would represent Paris Saint-Germain in FIFA 22.

With a 74 OVR card comes limitations in Ultimate Team, although the underlying stats of the Flashback card would be much greater than his overall rating.

The all-time great would likely be handed top-tier pace and dribbling, with good shooting stats too.

GENERATIONAL - Talents like Messi don't come around too often...

If this card is indeed a throwback to his original FIFA card, then some stats could hinder the PSG player from being usable in top teams.

Messi's first-ever FIFA card included 62 balance which seems utterly absurd, given that he has set the standard for dribbling under pressure and is a master at riding challenges.

64 shot power is also far from ideal for an attacker in FUT 22, but we hope EA will give Messi the appropriate boosts where necessary, given they may have slightly missed the mark back in the early days of FIFA.
