Dead Space remake gameplay footage revealed during developer livestream

As per the announcement during the EA Play Live in 2021, a remake of the popular sci-fi horror survival game, Dead Space, is on the way.

The Dead Space Remake is expected to be on PC, PlayStation 5, and the Xbox Series X and S. It will be a complete remake and will see substantial changes to gameplay, have new locations added that were removed from the original game, and also will have its plot slightly tweaked to take into account the two sequels.

In a live stream on March 11, 2022, developers of the game Electronic Arts and Motive Studios showcased some behind-the-scenes of what they have of the game so far and went into technical details of the game's sounds and how they've upgraded it from the initial version.

Dead Space gets a new enhanced sound

In a live stream, Motive Studios took the time to explain advancements in the remake from the original game, particularly when it came to the game's sound.

The stream explained how sound in space works, how weapons sound, the new A.L.I.V.E System, and more.

Sound in space - Audio Occlusion

The developers took the time to compare the original sound of Dead Space to its new remake, making an emphasis on its new sounds. The focus was on how the sounds work in 3D space, allowing for a more dynamic feel. Giving places that normally would have been a standard sound in the original version of the game a different take.

A major part was the game's realism in sounds, giving muffling or changing the frequency of a sound depending on the objects in-between Isaac and the sound.

Weapons

For weapons, they wanted to take the same approach of taking the original sound but wanted to iterate upon it, making sure that each weapon has its own distinctive sound. The result was a more outstanding sound to the game's weapons, giving them more personality as they added layers upon layers. Additionally, the weapons also will sound differently depending on the player's location.

A.L.I.V.E. System

Short for Adrenaline, Limbic System Response, Intelligent Dialog, Vitals, and Exertions, the A.L.I.V.E. System is Dead Space Remake's take on how sounds directly affect players' immersion, making Isaac sound more realistic.

Due to the game's horror-infused nature, sounds like Isaac's breathing and heartbeats are a crucial part of players' connections to the game, as it builds immersion and emphasize what the game's genre embodies. It encompasses all components of Isaac's breathing and heart rate, vocal exertions, and dialogue influenced by a variety of driving gameplay features.
