Be careful out there, Engineers! We could be getting a new Dead Space game in the future and there's a lot of rumours circulating about what that could mean. EA Play Live is about three weeks away now, so we could see an announcement sooner than we think, but at this stage, it is a lot of speculation. Here are all the latest rumours and the evidence people have to support them.
LATEST - Dead Space Game Could Be A Remake
Following in the footsteps of Capcom's Resident Evil remakes, and the successes of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, it looks like EA Motive has been put in charge of remaking Dead Space rather than developing "Dead Space 4".
GamesBeat has recently corroborated reports from EuroGamer and Gematsu, both of which claim EA Motive is being put in charge of a "revival" of the Dead Space series. Rather than develop a completely new game, though, they're going to be rebuilding Dead Space in the same fashion that Capcom rebuilt the older Resident Evil titles. They're the same games on paper but vastly improved in every way.
There isn't too much evidence to support this other than the fact that EA has claimed Dead Space was never dead, as a series, and the fact that EA Motive had made it clear they were moving onto non-Star Wars projects after Squadrons released.
Only time will tell how true this is, but it looks like there's a consensus across the industry that this is what's happening behind closed doors.
Has EA Just Left Us A Huge Clue?
Earlier, an eagle-eyed Dead Space fan has spotted that the official Dead Space YouTube channel has just updated its Profile Picture after years of activity. This isn't wholly unusual given the fact that it was using an outdated Dead Space 3 logo, however, it is a little suspect given the rumours.
It could also just be housekeeping by EA, or be in preparation to announce some kind of "anniversary remaster". Mass Effect: Legendary Edition has done pretty well, after all, and the original Dead Space was released in October 2008.
You can check out the evidence below and make your own assumptions. We don't think we'll be hearing anything ahead of EA Play Live on July 22nd, but we could see something sooner than we think if this is anything to go by...
Is A New Dead Space Game Coming?
At the moment, we don't know for sure. What we do know is that EA is going to breathe new life into an "established IP" next month. This information comes from notable insider Jeff Grubb, a man with many fingers in many pies and his ear to the ground.
Following this statement, he said the following...
" I think you'll be happy. We're going to see it... If we're not dead first."
This could be morbid humour, or it could be a cleverly worded hint at a Dead Space revival. We haven't got any confirmation yet, though and EA is being silent.
However, there are a lot of people saying that this is the case despite the fact that Dead Space 3 offered the series a pretty definitive endpoint. This could mean that any new Dead Space game is set parallel to the narrative established in the original trilogy or it could act as a complete reboot over a "revival" of the series. Only time will tell...
When Is EA Play 2021?
This year's EA Play Live is going to take place on July 22nd, 2021. This is a whole month after E3 2021, so we're expecting to see big things from the publisher...
We don't know exactly when it's going to start on this date, but we're anticipating things to kick off around 08:00 PST / 11:00 EST / 16:00 BST. Last year's EA Play Live lasted around 50 minutes. We wouldn't be surprised to see this year's offer a similar amount of content.
As for the line-up, as you might imagine, it's anyone's guess right now... There are of course staples which we're expecting to see, like FIFA. But, here's hoping for some Necromorphs, though.
