NEXT PlayStation Acquisition could be bigger than Kojima Productions

Given some recent rumours from last week and the cancellation of E3, it makes sense why tonnes of video game news and rumours are coming out of the woodwork right now. One of the biggest is hints at a new acquisition from Sony. Here's what we know so far.

Kojima Productions Acquisition Rumours

Before getting into the rest of the story, it's important to clarify the context behind what was said. Recently, Sony put up a "PlayStation Studios" banner including Sam from Death Stranding. Given everything else in the banner was made by 1st party developers, many believed this was a hint at the acquisition of Kojima Productions.

When Kojima retweeted this image without a caption on his Japanese speaking account, this only fueled those rumours.

He has since clarified he was just showing the banner and Kojima Productions will continue to be an independent studio.

The Next Acquisition

In response to this, Jeff Grubb, a reputable journalist and industry insider, reported that while this acquisition isn't true, the next one will be much bigger than Kojima Productions. He said:

If you've heard the rumours of a big acquisition from Sony, this was never Kojima Productions, at least not as far as I'm aware... That was never a name that was thrown around. It was bigger than Kojima Productions.

It's unsure who this could be referring to but it must be a pretty big choice. Microsoft has taken on-board companies like Bethesda and Activision Blizzard over the last few years so it makes sense that Sony is trying to go on the offence here. Hopefully, we will hear much more about it over the Summer. It seems unlikely that these rumours are surfacing without a nearby date to announce them. We'll update you right here if anything changes.
