Mario Golf: Super Rush will be the seventh installment in the classic series, but this is the first time it's heading to Nintendo Switch.
New details have been revealed about Mario Golf: Super Rush including the title's release date, and a preview of a new game mode with some Smash Bros. inspiration at play.
Battle Golf feels inspired by Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Mario Golf: Super Rush already looks like it has the potential to be a fantastic next step in this classic series, especially considering how long it's been since Mario Golf released on a primary Nintendo console.
Mario Golf: Advance Tour released on Game Boy Advance in 2004, and Mario Golf: World Tour released on Nintendo 3DS in 2014, but the last time a primary Nintendo console hosted the series was Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour on GameCube in 2003.
This series return was first announced at a Nintendo Direct in February, and it looks like the title is taking cues from another major Nintendo franchise as the newly unveiled Battle Golf game mode looks significantly inspired by Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
This new game mode will be a variant of Speed Golf, which takes some cues from Mario Kart and challenges players to race through a course while picking up power-ups to recover and attack opponents.
Battle Golf will confine players to an arena and challenge them to make specific shots while battling in a 3D area with opponents using their character's special abilities and weaponized power-ups.
Mario Golf: Super Rush Release Date
Mario Golf: Super Rush is set to be released exclusively for Nintendo Switch on June 25, 2021 and players can already pre-order the title on the Nintendo eShop.
The game will cost $59.99 in the US and £49.99 in the UK, with physical pre-orders available now or soon through various retailers.
There is not currently expected to be any Early Access, and there are no known pre-order bonus rewards.
