Are you looking for some back up out wide on Career Mode? Or are you just looking for the next superstar? It will come as a relief that you are able to find young players with fantastic potential at an affordable price in FIFA 18’s Career Mode. If you make a move for a talented player early on in their career, you can save a shed load of cash.

How to choose the best cheap high potential players in FIFA 18 Career Mode

We are looking at the best high potential right wingers (RW) and right midfielders (RM) on FIFA 18’s Career Mode. All of these players can be signed for less than £5 million, and they all have the potential to hit at least 80 on Career Mode. At large, they are players not quite ready for first team football, but they have the potential to be some of the best players in the world. We have compiled our top 10 by looking at player potential, age and player stats.

Advantages of cheap high potential players

The main advantage of signing these type of players is saving money. In some cases, you are purchasing a player a decade before their peak, so you can save up to £70 million with some players. Your job as the manager is to nurture these players to maximise their potential; give them as much game-time as possible and use them regularly in training.

Marcus Edwards (OVR 65 – POT 87)

Age: 18

Positions: RM, CAM

Club: Tottenham Hotspur

Country: England

Work rate: High/Medium

Best stats: 91 balance, 83 agility, 78 acceleration

Cost: £3.1 million (release clause)

Wage: £10,000

Tottenham right or attacking midfielder Marcus Edwards has worked his way up from England U16s through to U20s, and he won the U19 Euros last summer. The 18-year-old made his debut for Spurs last season, but an ankle injury in October 2016 ruled him out for the rest of the season.

Edwards has a 65 overall with a potential of 87 on Career Mode. That potential puts him higher than the current level of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Bernardo Silva and Juan Cuadrado. His best stats are his 91 balance, 83 agility and 78 acceleration, and Edwards can be yours for just £3.1 million and £10,000 a week wages.

Jordi Mboula (OVR 68 – POT 85)

Age: 18

Positions: RM, ST

Club: AS Monaco

Country: Spain

Work rate: Medium/Medium

Best stats: 85 sprint speed, 79 acceleration, 74 dribbling

Cost: £4.1 million

Wage: £9,000 (release clause)

We are yet to see the 18-year-old Jordi Mboula turn out for Monaco following his £2.7 million summer move from Barcelona. The right midfielder or striker scored eight goals in as many games in the UEFA Youth League for Barcelona last season, so he clearly has goal scoring pedigree.

On FIFA 18, Mboula has a 68 overall and 85 potential. His stats of 85 sprint speed, 79 acceleration and 74 dribbling make him an attractive purchase, especially for just £4.1 million. His weekly wages of £9,000 are a touch pricey and you will need to wait until January to sign him.

Aymen Barkok (OVR 68 – POT 84)

Age: 19

Positions: RM, CAM

Club: Eintracht Frankfurt

Country: Germany

Work rate: Medium/Medium

Best stats: 81 ball control, 80 dribbling, 71 acceleration

Cost: £3.9 million (release clause)

Wage: £8,000

After 18 appearances in his first Bundesliga season with Eintracht Frankfurt, Aymen Barkok is now targeting consistency. With the majority of those minutes coming from the bench, the 19-year-old will not want more starting opportunities.

The German U21 international can play as a right or attacking midfielder, and he can be yours for just £3.9 million on Career Mode. That’s a fantastic price for the 68 rated Barkok, who has a superb potential of 84. With his best stats of 81 ball control, 80 dribbling and 71 acceleration, he is already a dangerous player which should make him worth his £8,000 a week wages.

Ferran Torres (OVR 65 – POT 84)

Age: 17

Positions: RM, RW

Club: Valencia

Country: Spain

Work rate: High/Medium

Best stats: 71 finishing, 70 ball control, 68 acceleration

Cost: £2.6 million (release clause)

Wage: £4,000

The 17-year-old Ferran Torres is patiently waiting for his opportunity at Valencia, after impressing for the Spanish U17 side. It's a big step up to senior football though, and it may be a few years before we see the young right midfielder or winger take to the pitch at The Mestalla.

Torres’ 65 overall rating consists of 71 finishing, 70 ball control and 68 acceleration. With a potential of 84, you must consider the £2.6 million move for the player, with his wages only £4,000 a week.

Ferdinando Del Sole (OVR 65 – POT 84)

Age: 19

Positions: RW

Club: Pescara

Country: Italy

Work rate: Medium/Medium

Best stats: 72 dribbling, 72 acceleration, 72 ball control

Cost: £2.3 million (release clause)

Wage: £968

Right winger Ferdinando Del Sole is actually on loan at Pescara from Juventus, but the deal has been made permanent on FIFA 18. The 19-year-old is a regular starter in Serie B for Pescara, with three goals and two assists already this season.

With 72 dribbling, 72 acceleration and 72 ball control Del Sole is an exciting prospect, and he can be yours for just £2.3 million. That’s a superb price for the youngster with a 65 starting overall and the potential to hit 84. If things couldn’t get any better, his current wages are just £968 a week.

Diego Lainez (OVR 68 – POT 83)

Age: 17

Positions: RM, LM

Club: Club America

Country: Mexico

Work rate: Medium/Medium

Best stats: 93 balance, 76 short passing, 74 dribbling

Cost: £3.6 million (release clause)

Wage: £14,000

Diego Lainez made his debut for Club America at the age of just 16 last season, going on to make 10 appearances over the campaign. The right or left midfielder is looking to build on his bright start to his career, and with three goals in five games from Mexico U17s, he's heading in the right direction.

The 17-year-old has an incredible 93 balance on FIFA 18, as well as 76 short passing and 74 dribbling. For those impressive skills you get hold of a 68-rated player with a potential of 83, for a price of £3.6 million. His weekly wages of £14,000 aren’t cheap, but the player will be worth it in the long run.

Calvin Stengs (OVR 68 – POT 83)

Age: 18

Positions: RW

Club: AZ Alkmaar

Country: Netherlands

Work rate: Medium/Medium

Best stats: 80 acceleration, 80 agility, 76 sprint speed

Cost: £3.5 million (release clause)

Wage: £4,000

With two goals in six games for AZ Alkmaar, we may be seeing the next Dutch great coming through the Eredivisie in the form of Calvin Stengs. Sadly for Stengs, the footballing gods can be cruel, with the youngster already ruled out for the remainder of the season with a cruciate ligament injury.

The Dutchman has 80 acceleration, 80 agility and 76 sprint speed helping make up his 68 overall with an impressive potential of 83. He can be yours for just £3.5 million on Career Mode, with his wages only £4,000 a week.

Mitchell van Bergen (OVR 64 – POT 83)

Age: 17

Positions: RW, LW

Club: Vitesse

Country: Netherlands

Work rate: High/Medium

Best stats: 92 acceleration, 83 sprint speed, 82 agility

Cost: £1.7 million (release clause)

Wage: 2,000

With 19 appearances chalked up last season, the focus is very much on Vitesse’s Mitchel van Bergen for the current campaign. Another Dutchman, van Bergen can play on either wing, and the 17-year-old already has silverware to his name in the form of the KNVB Cup in Holland.

He is an absolute speedster on FIFA 18, with 92 acceleration, 83 sprint speed and 82 agility. Pace will always get you far, which is shown by the 64 rated van Bergen’s 83 potential. Amazingly he will only set you back £1.7 million, with his wages just £2,000 a week.

Emmanuel Latte Lath (OVR 63 – POT 83)

Age: 18

Positions: RW

Club: Pescara

Country: Ivory Coast

Work rate: Medium/Medium

Best stats: 75 acceleration, 70 sprint speed, 68 dribbling

Cost: £1.7 million (release clause)

Wage: £880

Limited to just three Coppa Italia fixtures in his senior career so far, Pescara’s Emmanuel Latte Lath is one of those unknown prospects on FIFA 18. With one goal in those three games for former club Atalanta, the Ivorian clearly has something, so keep an eye out for the 18-year-old right winger this season.

Latte Lath has 75 acceleration, 70 sprint speed and 68 dribbling, which help make up his 63 overall. With a potential of 83 you can’t miss out on the youngster, especially with his £1.7 million release clause and £880 a week wages.

Reiss Nelson (OVR 59 – POT 83)

Age: 17

Positions: RM

Club: Arsenal

Country: England

Work rate: High/Medium

Best stats: 84 acceleration, 84 agility, 79 sprint speed

Cost: £878,000 (release clause)

Wage: £6,000

Unheard of before this season, Reiss Nelson is starting to showcase his talents for Arsenal. The 17-year-old has been handed four appearances so far this season under Arsene Wenger, including the Community Shield against Chelsea and two Europa League ties.

With nine goals in just 10 games for England U17s, Nelson can feel slightly hard done by with just a 59 overall rating. However, the right midfielder’s potential is 83, so his dangerous stats of 84 acceleration, 84 agility and 79 sprint speed are set for a large improvement. He can be yours for just £878,000 and £6,000 a week wages.
