New World Unrecoverable Error: How to fix Steam must be running error on log in

New World, the first big project from Amazon Game Studios, has been all action since its launch, reaching up to 800,000 concurrent players at a time.

One consistent error has kept many players from logging into New World, however. This is the Unrecoverable Error message, which states "Steam must be running to play the game. Make sure you are logged into Steam, then try again".

Here's how to fix the common New World error and how to log in despite it.

Unrecoverable Error

When players were opening the game on Steam, they could see the Startup Screen normal until instead of the login Options, players were met with the error:

Unrecoverable Error

Steam must be running to play this game. Make sure you are logged into Steam, then try again.

After pressing OK, another error window appears:

Easy Anti-Cheat

Untrusted system file (C:\\Windows\\System32\\TextShaping.dll)

The problem lies in specific faulty certificates, which must have been affected after the last update. As a result, Steam perceives some files of the game as insecure.

Luxendra, the community manager of New World, announced:

We are aware that there are some issues with EAC and Steam preventing players from accessing New World.

If you encounter this issue, we recommend re-installing EAC or verifying the game file through Steam to resolve this issue and get back to playing.

Another option is to delete the anticheat folder; after that, Verify the Integrity of Game Files, Steam will restore the files and you will be able to re-enter the game without problems.

With very enticing, massive PVP and PVE battles, New World popularity is skyrocketing, so it is reasonable to encounter some technical problems.

We hope this new Studio can continue with the excellent work and anticipate or offer solutions efficiently when players encounter errors.
