Hearthstone's big BlizzCon 2021 plans and what to expect

BlizzCon 2021 gets underway later today and whilst there's been plenty of leaks to satisfy fans ahead of time, most have been focussed on World of Warcraft.

It's fairly nailed on we'll see a new WoW Shadowlands expansion, a new WoW Classic update for Burning Crusade and there's also heavy rumours concerning a Diablo 2 Remake.

But what about Hearthstone fans?

Here's what we know so far...

Latest - Hearthstone Shows Up Big at BlizzCon 2021

BlizzConline has been massive for Hearthstone, which looks to recapture some of its former glory while pushing the game forward with the Year of the Griffin.

The Year of the Griffin will feature the following:

• A new Core Set for Standard that is made up of 235 classic cards (with some tweaks) and 29 new cards. All of these cards will be free
• Classic Hearthstone is coming with the game's original cards, with its own ranked system and rewards
• Hearthstone Mercenaries (a new game mode)
• A new expansion branching out into The Barrens
• A new keyword, Frenzy

When was the last Hearthstone expansion?

It's been quite some time since Madness at the Darkmoon Faire was added to the game.

Hearthstone's sixteenth expansion, featuring 135 new collectable cards was released on November 17th, 2020.

So it seems about the right time to announce the next big update for the game.

Where better than BlizzCon 2021, right?

If you wanted more evidence of some big news inbound, the same person who leaked Diablo 4 six months in advance has also tweeted out ahead of BlizzCon 2021.

According to Kaiser499, we should see some sort of Hearthstone Expansion.

So far Blizzard has been keeping their cards close to their chest (pun intended) when it comes to what they're planning in 2021.

However, according to the Blizzard schedule there's a planned 'Hearthstone Deep Dive' taking place tonight from 11:05 PM - 11:45 PM GMT.

During this time fans can join the Hearthstone team and host Brian Kibler for a closer look at what's coming to Hearthstone in 2021.

We expect this is when we'll learn what is coming next to the tavern.

Hearthstone 2021 teasers

For the time being the only 'tease' given by the developers has revolved around the tweet seen below.

In the event the tweet isn't loading, it reads:

"Danger lurks amongst the thorns and thistles... Muster your strength and honor for the #BlizzConline reveal this Friday!"

Some fans have taken this to mean that

Both Razorfen Kraul and Razorfen Down could be the focus, or perhaps the Boar god, Agamaggan.

Others believe that the “Quill you be ready?” line is a nod to the quillboar race found in the Barrens.
