Brazilian midfielder awarded La Liga's April POTM award

La Liga is offering one of its tightest title races in recent years, with the top three clubs separated by just two points with four games to go.

Players shone at both ends of the table in April - and we now know who will be getting the Player of the Month prize, earning themselves an SBC item in FIFA 21 Ultimate Team.

We don't have a POTM card yet - but Fernando has been announced as La Liga's April Player of the Month, according to a Reddit post.

The defensive midfielder aided Sevilla to five wins from five in April, taking them to within three points of top spot in La Liga.

We now await the arrival of the Brazilian's SBC item in FIFA 21 Ultimate Team.

Release Date

The current La Liga POTM SBC expired last week, so you can no longer add a 94 OVR Karim Benzema to your Ultimate Team.

EA usually leaves a week for the community to get their votes in, so you can expect to see the winner of April's award announced around Friday, 7 May.

Nominees & Predictions

These are the players who were up for the award, as well as with some predicted ratings.

Lionel Messi (OVR 93 - POTM 97)

This would have been frightening; had Lionel Messi bagged a second Player of the Month prize, the Argentine would have been teleported to an outrageous 97 rating.

The Argentine perhaps doesn't deserve the reward with just two goals and an assist in April, which all came in the 5-2 victory over Getafe - but expect the community to vote for the Barca skipper.

Thibaut Courtois (OVR 89 - POTM 93)

Despite defeating Barcelona in April, Real Madrid are stuttering in La Liga - and if it wasn't for goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois they'd be out of the title race.

The Belgian number 1 conceding just one goal in April, in the 2-1 win in El Clasico - and was man of the match in Los Blancos' 0-0 draw with Getafe.

Fernando (OVR 83 - POTM 88)

Goals can be like London buses for some players, with defensive midfielder Fernando netting in back-to-back games for Sevilla in April.

Los Nervionenses won all five of their games in April, including a 1-0 victory over leaders Atletico Madrid, bringing Sevilla to within three points of top spot.

Angel Correa (OVR 82 - POTM 87)

Following on from his Community TOTS item, Angel Correa could have had another reason to celebrate this week.

The Atletico man netted three goals and picked up two assists as the La Liga title race goes down to the wire.

Fernando Pacheco (OVR 82 - POTM 88)

Alaves are scrapping at the bottom of the table, but thanks to stand-in captain Fernando Pacheco, the club is edging towards safety.

In April, Babazorros picked up two victories and two draws out their five games, including two clean sheets for Pacheco.

Claudio Bravo (OVR 77 - POTM 85)

A third goalkeeper among the nominees, Claudio Bravo only returned from injury in March, but his fine form saw Real Betis claim five draws from five matches for Los Verdiblancos.

That may not sound impressive, but two of those results were against Atletico and Real Madrid - denting their title pushes, with Bravo also picking up two clean sheets during that run.

Samuel Chukwueze (OVR 77 - POTM 85)

Despite losing three fixures in April, Villarreal still notched two victories, with wide man Samuel Chukwueze netting three goals in the month.

The Yellow Submarine may be focusing on their Europa League effort, but they still have work to do to qualify for the competition next season.

Bundesliga POTM

The unstoppable Erling Haaland continued his fine form in April and has picked up his second Player of the Month award as a result.
