Free transfers are key. Here’s the best players available for free following your third season.
Signing players at the end of the contract is one of the most thrifty ways to get star names to your club on FIFA Career Mode, although it will take some degree of patience, a bit of luck, or sometimes both.
Knowing which players are coming to the end of their contract will help you get those deals wrapped up as soon as possible.
Here is the list of the big names whose contracts will be up come the year 2022 on FIFA 20’s Career Mode.
Cristiano Ronaldo (OVR 93 – POT 93)
Position(s): ST, LW
Club: Piemonte Calcio (Juventus)
Wage: £357,000 a week
Whilst he may have lost the title of the best player on the game to Lionel Messi on FIFA 20, Cristiano still remains one of the best in the world both in real life and on the EA sim. Having won just about every trophy available to him as a player, Ronaldo will go down as one of the games all-time greats, and at 37 come 2022, he may well have hung up his boots.
However, should he still be playing, his rating is likely to have taken a hit, so be sure to negotiate on that hefty wage which he currently pockets each week.
Neymar (OVR 92 – POT 92)
Position(s): LW, CAM
Club: Paris Saint-Germain
Wage: £256,000 a week
Despite looking nailed on for a move back to former employers Barcelona in the summer, 27-year-old Brazilian star Neymar remained in the French capital with current champions Paris Saint Germain.
Despite his undoubtable footballing talent, the Brazilian made the headlines for the wrong reasons on a number of occasions last seasons. He will be at 30 years of age come 2022, but with his overall expected to be on the right side of 90, he will still be worthy of those big wages.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen (OVR 90 – POT 93)
Wage: £220,000 a week
Barcelona’s German stopper is the first goalkeeper in the list of players whose contract comes to an end after three seasons on FIFA 20, and with a potential rating of 93, he may well be the best in the business come that time.
With 88 diving, 88 positioning and 90 reflexes, it seems a given that the goalkeepers wages will remain the same if not greater than the £220,000 a week he is on, but if you can afford it, he will undoubtedly pay you back in clean sheets.
Kylian Mbappe (OVR 89 – POT 95)
Position(s): ST, RW
Club: Paris Saint-Germain
Wage: £136,000 a week
At just 20 years of age, the World Cup winner has scored 63 goals in 100 appearances for PSG, winning three French League titles and a French Cup. Like Ter Stegen, Mbappe has a very high potential, and should he maximise his by 2022 you can expect to pay double or even triple his current £136,000 a week wage.
Paulo Dybala (OVR 88 – POT 92)
Position(s): CAM, RW
Club: Piemonte Calcio (Juventus)
Wage: 190,000 a week
Despite looking set for a move to the Premier League over the summer, Paola Dybala remains a Juventus player. At just 25 years old, he does still have quite the potential.
With 83 pace, 84 passing and 90 dribbling at the start of FIFA 20, the young Argentinian could have some scarily good stats by 2022, another player who will command a significant wage if you want him in your team at the end-of-year three.
Diego Godin (OVR 88 – POT 88)
Club: Inter Milan
Wage: 120,000 a week
A player who you could get on the cheap in 2022 is Inter Milan’s Uruguayan centre half Diego Godin. The veteran centre-half has spent the majority of his career playing in Spain but made the move across Europe to the Italian side in the summer as he looked for a new challenge to end his career.
At 36 years of age come 2022, the Uruguayan may only have a season or two left in him, but as a defender, his rating should hold. Should you be able to talk his wages down from the £120,000 a week he’s on, he may be a solid short term addition for your club.
Hugo Lloris (OVR 88 – POT 88)
Club: Tottenham Hotspur
Wage: 133,000 a week
France’s number one Hugo Lloris is another top end goalkeeper with a contract expiring in 2022. The 32-year-old has been the first choice at Tottenham Hotspur since 2012 when he made the move from French side Olympique Lyonnais and has since solidified his position as one of the best shot stoppers in the world.

With 91 reflexes, 89 diving and 84 positioning, the Frenchman remains one of the best in FIFA 20, and is another player who will be hitting the twilight of his career in 2022. With ‘keepers known to play on until their late 30s, he could be a great addition if you can get him on the right wages.
Gerard Pique (OVR 88 – POT 88)
Wage: £251,000 a week
Long-term Barcelona centre half Gerard Pique has been a mainstay in the Catalonians side for the past 12 years. He has had an illustrious career to date. A World Cup and European Championship winner with Spain, Pique has also won four Champions League titles and many league titles and cups with both Barcelona and Manchester United.
Like Godin, Pique won’t be a long-term addition come 2022, but his rating should still be competitive to fit in any of the top sides, but you will have to talk his wage some way down from the £251k he earns in order to make any sensible deal.
Lorenzo Insigne (OVR 87 – 87)
Position(s): CF, LW, ST
Wage: £123,000 a week
27-year-old Lorenzo Insigne has seen a slight hit to his 88 rating from FIFA 19, but he still remains a real-threat in the latest instalment of the game.
With 91 dribbling, 89 pace and 85 passing, Insigne makes for an ideal winger for any side who likes to play fast flowing, attacking football. With the ability to play in central positions also, his versatility makes him an ideal signing for career mode. His modest wage of £123,000 a week may also fall slightly by 2022.
Mats Hummels ( OVR 87 – POT 87 )
Club: Borussia Dortmund
Wage: £115,000 a week
Mats Hummels turned many heads across Europe earlier in the summer when he made the surprise switch back to Borussia Dortmund from rivals Bayern Munich. The German centre-back is still renowned as one of the best defenders on the planet and is sure to be a great addition for BVB.
The German’s 87 overall shows base stats of 90 marking, 89 standing tackle and 86 sliding tackle. With plenty of years left in him come 2022, and likely to be available on a wage below £100k a week, he will be a solid defensive addition for your side.
