Uruguay have not won the World Cup since 1950 and only won one Copa America in the last 20 years. The likes of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani have brought attacking brilliance to a typically organised side that are difficult to beat. Veteran defender Diego Godin's international career is drawing to a close, although his partnership with Jose Maria Gimenez has been successful for both club and country.

How to choose the best Uruguayan wonderkids in FIFA 19 Career Mode

For players to qualify for this list, they must be aged 23 or younger at the start of FIFA 19 Career Mode. The youngsters must also begin Career Mode with an overall of 70 or higher making them effective in your team straight away. These players must then have the potential to reach 80 OVR or higher making them top class players.

Jose Maria Gimenez (OVR 84 - POT 88)

Managers on FIFA 19 looking for an exciting young central midfielder should look no further than Bentancur. With terrific ability on the ball, Bentancur will cost £22 million and can reach an 88 overall making him great value for money early on.

With 85 stamina and 84 aggression, Torreira is an excellent defensive midfielder on FIFA 19. Potentially reaching a 87 overall, the 5’6” Arsenal midfielder will cost around £40 million on Career Mode and is a terrific all-round player.

Promising Uruguayan midfielder Nahitan Nandez has already earned 20 international caps at the age of 22. Club side Boca Juniors have rested Nandez in their past three games, however, before that he had registered one assist in the six matches.

High attacking and defensive work rates coupled with 91 stamina mean Nandez covers every blade of grass on the pitch. Nandez can reach an 85 OVR, is solid defensively and is available for £14.8 million on FIFA 19.

Gomez is an excellent finisher on FIFA 19 with an 85 finishing attribute as well as 83 attack positioning. With an 80 overall at the age of 22, 6’1” Gomez has plenty of time to improve and can be an excellent addition to many squads, although he will not come cheap with a price tag of £39.2 million.

Federico Valverde (OVR 73 - POT 83)

With an 83 potential Valverde may never be a first-choice midfielder at Real Madrid, however the teenager can definitely play a major part elsewhere as he possesses great passing ability. Valverde will cost £11.9 million on FIFA 19 Career Mode for any managers looking to invest in a promising young midfielder.

Aggressive and physical, Cabaco is a centre back with great promise. His 83 jumping and 78 strength are his standout attributes making the 6’1” defender dominant against most forwards he faces. Managers will have to fork out £16.2 million to sign the 23-year-old who can reach an 81 overall.
