FIFA 19: Belgium Player Ratings

The Beligan national side has been amassing talent for years now. While their club sides are not competing in Europe, many of the best sides in the world are powered by Belgian players. In Euro 2016 Belgium were expected to go far but were disappointingly knocked out in the quarter-finals by Wales. Expectations were high again in Russia, and Belgium this time made it all the way to the semi-finals before being knocked out by the eventual winners France.

Belgium are one of the best international sides in FIFA 19. They have terrific attacking threats in Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard as well as very good defensive players like Thibaut Courtois and Toby Alderweireld. They are very well-rounded and have good options on the bench as well.

Thibaut Courtois (OVR 90 - POT 91)

Position: GK

Club: Real Madrid

Thibaut Courtois is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and in FIFA 19. He has already won 67 caps for Belgium and made a long-awaited transfer to Real Madrid this summer. In FIFA 19 he is an excellent all-round goalkeeper. With 91 GK handling, 88 GK reflexes, 87 GK diving, and 87 GK positioning it is difficult to beat him, and while his 74 GK kicking isn't excellent, it is still very good.

Toby Alderweireld (OVR 85 - POT 86)

Club: Tottenham Hotspur

Toby Alderweireld is the lynchpin of Belgium's defence. The Spurs man has 84 caps for his country and is their only quality defender under 30 right now. In FIFA 19 is he a terrific centre back, his defensive stats are remarkable (91 stand tackle, 90 marking, 85 slide tackle, 84 interceptions) but he can also contribute from set pieces (84 jumping, 82 heading accuracy) and can distribute the ball from the back as well (81 long pass, 77 short pass).

Vincent Kompany (OVR 85 - POT 85)

Club: Manchester City

Vincent Kompany was the beginning of Belgium's 'Golden Generation', but is now clinging onto his position in the national team. Injuries and time have sapped some of his athleticism, and in FIFA 19 it is stark (59 sprint speed, 52 acceleration). He can still get it done at the back though. His physicality (87 strength, 87 aggression) is good and his defensive attributes are strong (87 marking, 85 stand tackle, 84 slide tackle, 82 interceptions).

Jan Vertonghen (OVR 87 - POT 87)

Club: Tottenham Hotspur

Alderweireld's club-mate is also his international centre back partner. He's earned a remarkable 110 caps for Belgium and has scored nine times for them. His defensive stats are very strong (90 marking, 89 interceptions, 88 slide tackle, 87 stand tackle) but he can also play with the ball a little (76 ball control, 71 dribbling) and be a solid addition in possession passing (79 short pass, 74 long pass).

Thomas Meunier (OVR 82 - POT 83)

Club: Paris Saint-Germain

Belgium play with a trio of centre backs and then ask Thomas Meunier to play a right wing back/defensive right midfielder role. It is something he can do thanks to being a very well-rounded player in FIFA 19. He has remarkable stamina (92) to keep running up and down the flank all day, he can deliver good passes in the final third (83 crossing, 82 short pass, 74 long pass), and is solid without the ball too (82 stand tackle, 80 slide tackle, 77 marking, 76 interceptions). He has already won 30 caps for his national team and scored six times.

Kevin De Bruyne (OVR 91 - POT 92)

Club: Manchester City

Kevin De Bruyne is the creative force for Belgium. The 27-year-old has 68 caps for his national team and has scored 15 goals. In FIFA 19 he is a remarkable player. He is a complete passer (93 crossing, 92 short pass, 91 long pass) and can scythe through a defence with the ball at his feet (91 ball control, 86 dribbling). He will create for others but can also produce in front of goal (91 shot power, 91 long shots, 83 finishing).

Axel Witsel (OVR 82 - POT 82)

Club: Borussia Dortmund

Axel Witsel is Belgium's more defensively minded midfielder. He has scored nine times for them, but in his 97 caps Witsel is rarely involved at the sharp end, instead he shields the defence and aids distribution through the middle third. In FIFA 19 he has excellent physicality (88 stamina, 82 strength) and can pass well (83 short pass, 78 long pass) as well as make plays without the ball (80 interceptions, 73 stand tackle).

Yannick Carrasco (OVR 83 - POT 86)

Club: Dalian Yifang

Yannick Carrasco has made 31 appearances for Belgium in his young career, scoring five times. As the left midfielder for Belgium he has to perform some defensive duties, which is a problem because he is naturally a very attacking player. In FIFA 19 Carrasco is an excellent athlete (89 acceleration, 88 agility, 87 sprint speed) and great with the ball at his feet (88 dribbling, 87 ball control). Unfortunately, he is very poor defensively (58 marking, 39 stand tackle, 26 slide tackle, 18 interceptions).

Dries Mertens (OVR 87 - POT 87)

Belgium's potent attacking trio starts with Dries Mertens. The Napoli man has 76 caps and 15 goals for Belgium. Mertens is a terrific player with the ball at his feet (91 dribbling, 89 ball control) who can fly past defenders into deadly positions (94 agility, 93 acceleration, 85 sprint speed). Mertens is also fantastic in front of goal (86 finishing, 81 long shots) and can play in others when needed (82 short pass, 77 crossing, 74 long pass).

Eden Hazard (OVR 91 - POT 91)

Club: Chelsea

Eden Hazard is rapidly closing in on his 100th cap for Belgium and has scored 27 goals for them. The Chelsea winger is a remarkable player in FIFA 19. Excellent on the ball (95 dribbling, 94 ball control), a terrific athlete (95 agility, 93 acceleration, 89 sprint speed), and a wonderful creative force (89 short pass, 83 long pass, 81 crossing) Hazard can attack teams in a variety of ways. He is also strong in front of goal (84 finishing, 80 long shots).

Romelu Lukaku (OVR 87 - POT 89)

Position: ST

Club: Manchester United

Romelu Lukaku is Belgium's spearhead. The striker already has 43 goals in just 77 caps for Belgium. Physicality is Lukaku's biggest asset (94 strength, 84 stamina) and he has good burst to run away from defenders (90 sprint speed, 87 reactions, 77 acceleration). Lukaku is the perfect in-the-box finisher (88 finishing, 88 shot power) and is strong in the air as well (87 heading accuracy, 71 jumping).
