We first got wind of a The Last of Us remake via a report from Bloomberg in April 2021, but new reports suggest that the game isn't far from a reveal and release.
Bloomberg's report mentioned that the remake project was being led by PlayStation's Visual Arts Service Group studio before being taken over by Naughty Dog.
Now, VGC has corroborated reports from Tom Henderson that the Last of Us Remake is close to being finished and is scheduled for a release in 2022.
Last of Us Remake Release Date
On January 5, Henderson tweeted "Heard from multiple people now that the TLOU remake is nearly finished and could release during the latter half of 2022."
He's got a pretty good track record for leaks, usually focused on Call of Duty and Battlefield, and now his claims have been backed up by VGC.
VGC's own report states that Henderson's "claims match information VGC has received via our own sources." Presumably that's one of the "multiple projects" that Neil Druckmann teased at CES a few days ago.
The Last of Us Part 2 Multiplayer
Elsewhere, it's still expected that The Last of Us Part 2's delayed multiplayer mode will release in 2022, now as a standalone release.
Henderson also stated that a Director's Cut version of The Last of Us Part 2 is in development, although he doesn't know when it is due to release.
We'd expect each of the three projects to release in 2022, but we'll confirm once we know more.
Hopefully we'll be treated to a State of Play showcase early this year to reveal the projects that Naughty Dog is working on. It could be a big year for The Last of Us.
