PlayStation State of Play events are becoming a big deal when it comes to digital showcases. While not all of them have been blockbusters, when one of their events hits, it sends their community crazy!
Xbox and Nintendo have also capitalised on this market, bringing their own events with unique charm. With Summer Games Fest and Gamescom now behind us, is Sony getting ready to drop another State of Play event?

LATEST - New State of Play CONFIRMED
Well, just one day after the rumoured date, we are getting a brand new State of Play event! It will take place on Tuesday, 13 September at 3 pm PT / 6 pm ET / 11 pm BST / 11.59 pm CET.
State of Play Rumoured for September
The rumour mill is spinning once again with the prospect of a mid-September State of Play being thrown around. The most prominent source who has hinted at the event is The Snitch on Twitter.
The above tweet has been pointed at as possibly being a reference to the Tinder release date, 12 September. This connection was pointed out by Tom Henderson.
If this is solid information, which we're not doubting at the moment due to the credibility of the source, we should see an announcement in the next few days making things offical.
State of Play Confirmed for June
As reported by games journalists Mike Minotti and Jeff Grubb in their show, a brand new State of Play event will be happening in June, now officially confirmed by the PlayStation Twitter account.
According to PlayStation's blog post regarding the new showcase, the event will be happening on Thursday, June 2nd, 2022 and will start at 3 pm Pacific / 6 pm Eastern / 11 pm BST 12:00 am CET.
The event is expected to run for approximately 30 minutes and will be highlighting "exciting reveals" from third-party PlayStation partners as well as some new games being developed for the PSVR2.
The downside to this is that God of War Ragnarök will not be having a presence on the show due to it being a first-party title, meaning that fans will have to wait a little bit longer to hear more about Kratos' next blockbuster outing.
God of War Ragnarök Event Unlikely to Happen Soon.
When it comes to the most anticipated PlayStation releases that we could see soon, they don't come much bigger than God of War: Ragnarök.
Ragnarök was speculated to have a State of Play dedicated to it and solely it on Friday, May 27th, 2022. This wouldn't be out of the ordinary. PlayStation is known to put on special State of Play events dedicated to specific titles that they believe are noteworthy, with many of their first-party titles getting that treatment. It's easy to assume that God of War Ragnarök would be getting the same treatment.
According to God of War Ragnarök producer Cory Balrog in a Twitter video celebrating the fourth anniversary of God of War (2018), there is "something cool" coming for the game soon but no other information has been given since then, so it's hard to know whether that rumoured date is true.
The May 27th claim has also been further disputed by insider "Ashhong" on forum site Resetera who believes the date is "too soon" from when they last checked.
Further putting that date in doubt is the impending Summer Game Fest event set to start on June 9th 2022. While there is no guarantee that Sony will fall within the timeframe that Summer Game Fest is running, the June period tends to be where all the major companies make their big announcements and showcases, so a larger multi-game State of Play event that involves God of War Ragnarök isn't completely out of the realm of possibility either.
All of these possibilities aren't confirmed as of writing so hopefully, we can get an official announcement soon so the dreaded "2022" release date can get a little more fleshed out.
What is State of Play?
After Sony decided to stop attending the annual E3 events back after its 2018 showcase, the decision was made to produce a series of shorter pre-recorded video packages that would be broadcast live, in the vein of Nintendo Direct.
Dubbed "State of Play" Sony's PlayStation events have since become an integral part of the PlayStation brand, announcing and showcasing a variety of major titles in their line-up and even being used for the official PS5 reveal.
