Unfortunately, it looks like one dreaded issue didn't get addressed this time, which is bad news for Xbox players.

Xbox shutdown bug goes unaddressed in NBA 2K22 update

There was plenty of hope when this NBA 2K22 update went live that it might address the dreaded Xbox shutdown bug plaguing so many.

Some of the most frequent responses by players to news of the update were quickly centralized on the issue of Xbox consoles spontaneously powering off or closing the game while playing NBA 2K22.

Things reached such a point that Xbox Support recently had to address it directly, but it's unclear how much of the issue was with Xbox or with NBA 2K22.

While NBA 2K22 has been a prime culprit, it's far from alone as users have also recently reported similar problems with Madden 22, FIFA 22, Call of Duty: Vanguard, Microsoft Flight Simulator, and Splitgate.

With the Xbox shutdown bug stretching across multiple games from very different developers, the only common denominator seems to be playing a game that needs an internet connection.

With no mention of the bug directly in the official patch notes for NBA 2K22 New Gen Patch Update 1.6, this ball may remain in the court of Xbox if 2K was unable to fix it on their own.
