The Utah Jazz surprised the league this past season by showing up in a big way. After losing their star player to free agency, the front office crushed it in the draft by grabbing their star of the future, Donovan Mitchell. After a rough start to the season, the team turned things around and made a late season push up the rankings. They had some playoff success taking down the Oklahoma City Thunder, but still fell short in the second round.
Starting Lineup
Ricky Rubio, PG (OVR 79)
Age: 27
Height: 6’4”
Traits: Two-Way Point
Best Attributes: Steals, Lateral Quickness, Ball Handling
Ricky Rubio was definitely one of the stronger reasons as to why the Jazz made such a strong showing last year. After running a decent 13.1 points average per year, it was more dealing with the fact that he held an impressive 5.3 average assists and 1.6 steals per game as well. Both of these combined make him one to watch come this season.
Donovan Mitchell, SG (OVR 87)
Age: 21
Height: 6’3”
Traits: Two-Way Superstar
Best Attributes: Vertical, Speed, Layups
Donovan Mitchell was barely edged out by Ben Simmons for Rookie of the Year honors after putting together a monster season. Having been picked up by the Jazz for most of his rookie season, he dominated their games, netting him 20.5 points per game, as well as 3.7 assists per game. He also held a respectable 1.5 steals per game, meaning he could get down and dirty if necessary, even though he is quite short in comparison to other shooting guards.
Joe Ingles, SF (OVR 79)
Age: 30
Height: 6’8”
Traits: Two-Way Wing
Best Attributes: Lateral Quickness, 3Pt, Layups
As one of the longer members of the Jazz’s bench, Jinglin Joe has maybe started to hit his stride. Although he only averaged a lowly 11.5 points per game, he was able to stand with the best and get a nice 4.8 assists averaged for himself. He also had .609 in eFG%, meaning the shots he took were all solid. If this carries over to 2019, we could see another potential spotlight player.
Derrick Favors, PF (OVR 79)
Age: 27
Height: 6’10”
Traits: Low Post Star
Best Attributes: Layups, Strength, Post offense
Having been on the Utah Jazz for most of his career in the NBA, Favors was quite happy to see the Jazz pull such a strong showing last year. Although he averaged only a 12.3 per game point showing, his 7.2 rebounds per game were a strong reason as to why they won many of their games. Not only that, he had a .596 eFG%, making him a threat if you left him open for too long.
Rudy Gobert, C (OVR 87)
Age: 26
Height: 7’1”
Traits: Paint Protector
Best Attributes: Blocks, Stamina, Rebounding
When playing on such a roster as the Jazz, you have to have a man holding down the defensive side of the court, and that man is Gobert. Although he did average a nice 13.5 points per game, the main area he excelled in is with blocks, averaging 2.3 per game, and getting 10.7 total rebounds averaged per game. With him on the defensive side, you know the Jazz will have a lot to look forward to this season.
