The point guard position is a role that often gets mixed results from young players. However, given the amount of time they are touching the ball and playing in a more natural, front-facing offensive position, many guards can be productive right off the bat. The tough part about point guards is that there is generally only one player truly filling this role on the court, and the skills needed for this role requires players to have good knowledge of the game. That being said, here are our top picks of young point guards 25 years old or younger in NBA 2K19.
Dennis Schroder (OVR 81)
Age: 25
Height: 6'1"
Team: Oklahoma City Thunder
Stats: 19.4 pts, 3.1 rebs, 6.2 assists
Top Stats: Speed, Layups, Stamina
Schroder finds himself in a new role after bad-mouthing his team and getting traded. Last season he was the starting point guard and number one option for the Atlanta Hawks. This season, he will come off the bench behind one of the league's top point guards in Russell Westbrook.
D'Angelo Russell (OVR 83)
Age: 22
Height: 6'5"
Team: Brooklyn Nets
Stats: 15.5 pts, 3.9 rebs, 5.2 assists
Top Stats: Speed, Layups, Stamina
Last season, DAR suffered an injury that kept his season short. While he may not be the most efficient player quite yet, he does have a lot of potential and star power. He is the top future asset for the nets.
Lonzo Ball (OVR 79)
Age: 20
Height: 6'6"
Team: Los Angeles Lakers
Stats: 10.2 pts, 6.9 rebs, 7.2 assists
Top Stats: Passing, Dribbling, Stamina
Between the hype surrounding Lonzo and his brothers and the mouth on his dad, the Ball family is MADE for Hollywood. Ball wasn't quite the player the Lakers hoped for, but is able to contribute across the board. The hope is that LeBron can help point him in the right direction and help him live up to his potential.
Jamal Murray (OVR 81)
Age: 21
Height: 6'4"
Team: Denver Nuggets
Stats: 16.7 pts, 3.7 rebs, 3.4 assists
Top Stats: 3-point shooting, Mid-range shooting, Stamina
Jamal Murray isn't your prototypical point guard. In fact, he is more of a shooting guard that lines up as the Nuggets starting point guard. He doesn't typically "run" the offense, but can score efficiently and guard opposing ones.
Spencer Dinwiddie (OVR 79)
Age: 25
Height: 6'6"
Team: Brooklyn Nets
Stats: 12.6 pts, 3.2 rebs, 6.6 assists
Top Stats: Speed, Passing, Stamina
Dinwiddie was a surprise talent last season when both DAR and Jeremy Lin were out to injuries. Spencer put up numbers and won the All-Star weekend Skill Challenge. While he will be fighting for minutes next season, he may serve as a valuable trade asset for the Nets as well.
Terry Rozier III (OVR 79)
Age: 24
Height: 6'2"
Team: Boston Celtics
Stats: 11.3 pts, 4.7 rebs, 2.9 assists
Top Stats: Speed, 3-Pt Shooting, Stamina
Terry Rozier III is another testament to the depth of the Celtics. After Kyrie Irving missed the final chunk of the season due to injury, Rozier showed up big time and balled out. He is now rumored to be a trade target by the Suns and other rebuilding teams.
Malcolm Brogdon (OVR 79)
Age: 25
Height: 6'5"
Team: Milwaukee Bucks
Stats: 13 pts, 3.3 rebs, 3.2 assists
Top Stats: 3-Point Shooting, Layups, Stamina
Brogdon is more of a utility guard than a pure point guard. While he puts up decent numbers when he gets the minutes, those minutes and touches may be harder to come by. The Bucks added Eric Bledsoe last season via trade, bumping Brogdon back to the bench.
Dejounte Murray (OVR 78)
Age: 22
Height: 6'5"
Team: San Antonio Spurs
Stats: 8.1 pts, 5.7 rebs, 2.9 assists
Top Stats: Steals, Rebounds, Stamina
With Tony Parker passing the torch on to Murray in San Antonio, we will get to see a lot of the well-rounded guard. He can grab rebounds by the boatload and plays hard on defense. If he can figure out how to score in volume, he could be a real threat in this league.
Kris Dunn (OVR 78)
Age: 24
Height: 6'4"
Team: Chicago Bulls
Stats: 13.4 pts, 4.2 rebs, 6.0 assists
Top Stats: Speed, Passing, Stamina
Dunn has already experienced the tough life of an NBA player by getting traded after just one season in Minnesota. He is now the starting point guard in Chicago and should have a fun, young squad to grow with.
Dennis Smith Jr. (OVR 78)
Age: 20
Height: 6'3"'
Team: Dallas Mavericks
Stats: 15.2 pts, 3.8 rebs, 5.2 assists
Top Stats: Speed, Passing, Stamina
DSJ was a top candidate for Rookie of the Year last season, but was simply outperformed by a few other rookies. Regardless, he still has plenty of potential and should create a potent backcourt with Luka Doncic.
