We’ve got ourselves another bottom feeding team looking to turn things around by following the 76ers 'win through the draft after tanking' methodology. The Suns have not made the playoffs in quite some time, which is unusual for a franchise that has historically had a lot of success. The squad does have some high upside and will come in to the season with the number one overall pick. Let’s see how it looks.
Starting Lineup
Devin Booker, PG (OVR 87)
Age: 21
Height: 6’6”
Traits: Offensive Star
Best Attributes: Stamina, Mid-Range, 3Pt
Booker is easily the current face of this franchise. This offseason, the young stud just inked a five-year, $158 million maximum contract extension with the Suns and will hopefully continue to improve as he takes his game to the next level.
Last season, the star averaged 24.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists over 54 games played.
Josh Jackson, SG (OVR 77)
Age: 21
Height: 6’8”
Traits: Two-Way Wing
Best Attributes: Vertical, Lateral Quickness, Speed
Jackson is another young piece to this franchise’s future success. As a former number four overall pick, Jackson will hopefully grow along the same timeline as Booker. Last season he averaged 13.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game, but only logged 25.4 minutes per game. While the Suns did add a high ranking SF to back up Jackson in this year’s draft, Jackson should still see increased minutes and responsibility this year.
T.J. Warren, SF (OVR 80)
Age: 24
Height: 6’8”
Traits: Scoring Wing
Best Attributes: Layups, Stamina, Mid-Range
After his best performing season yet, T.J. Warren is hoping to impress once again. with an amazing 19.6 points averaged, even on the suns of all teams, he also has a strong 5.1 total rebounds per game. Hoping to improve on his .507 eFG%, he can be a real threat if he continues to hit his stride.
Trevor Ariza, PF (OVR 78)
Age: 33
Height: 6’8”
Traits: Lockdown Defender
Best Attributes: Stamina, Lateral Quickness, Vertical
Ariza was the big free agent signing the Suns were able to land this summer on a one-year deal. Ariza brings a much-needed veteran presence to a squad loaded with young small forward talent. If he can show these kids the ropes, even a one-year rental will have been well worth it.
While playing for the Houston Rockets last season, Ariza averaged 11.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. Ariza offers plenty of defensive presence while also being a 3-point threat.
DeAndre Ayton, C (OVR 79)
Age: 20
Height: 7’1”
Traits: Low Post Star
Best Rebounding, Strength, Blocks
Ayton is the newest member of this young family, but may also be the most important piece. As a rookie, Ayton has no past NBA stats to work with but expectations are still high. Some have made the comparison of this Booker-Ayton combo to Kobe-Shaq. Needless to say, the big man will have to make a strong impression right from the start.
