There is a handful of highly anticipated reveals in the 2023 gaming calendar, and one of them is the next Marvel's Spider-Man 2 trailer. Following on from the smashing success of Spider-Man 2018 and Miles Morales in 2020, PlayStation fans are on the edge of their seat waiting for the new game.
Originally revealed in the PlayStation Showcase of September 2021, the web-swinging duo of Peter Parker and Miles Morales look set to team up against new villains and one fan-favourite character.
We haven't seen much from Marvel's Spider-Man 2, bringing plenty of little details and Easter Eggs to pick through.
Latest News - Spider-Man 2 trailer hits Australia
A new marketing trailer has been released for Spider-Man 2, with an Australian advert being shared across social media.
The short trailer showcases very little but does show Miles and Peter swinging together in New York City having webbed up some criminals for the police.
The quality isn't great, but this breakdown from Blakwoods on YouTube shows what fans see.
Tucked away in this ad is a "coming Spring 2023" tag. That would normally suggest it is right around the corner, but don't get too excited.
With this ad airing in Australia, the Spring tag means Autumn to those in the northern hemisphere. So we shouldn't expect to see Spider-Man 2 until September-November.
That's the usual spot for big games as it hits the Black Friday-Christmas spending spree. This trailer, while only regional and a tiny hint at what is to come, does give us more hope that more are on the way soon.
Spider-Man 2 Trailer
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be the sequel to the much loved Marvel's Spider-Man, a story that documented the trials and tribulations of Peter Parker, as well as the hero that dons the mask.
Insomniac continued their trend of top-tier Spidey stories with the release of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a spin-off game that put us in the position of a young hero realising the potential of his powers.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will bring Peter and Miles together as fully-realised heroes for the first time.
The only worldwide Spider-Man 2 trailer we have seen so far was the initial teaser trailer at Sony's Showcase event in 2021. This 97-second video hit fans hard though.
It includes both Miles and Peter taking on low-level thugs while an ominous voice speaks about searching for an equal. This suggests that both Peter and Miles will be playable, perhaps giving players the chance to swap between Spideys as they need to, or just controlling different ones for different missions.
While unconfirmed, the community is fully expecting the voice to belong to Kraven The Hunter. Canonically, Kraven is Russian which would fit with the accent we hear in the trailer. Of course, there is another villain shown off at the end too: The fan-favourite Venom.
How these two villains will be presented and come into conflict with the pair of Spider-Men we don't yet know. That should become clear in full gameplay trailers that are likely to come out over the summer as hype builds.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 release date
As stated above, there is no official news for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 release date.
We expect the game to arrive in the pre-Christmas September-November 2023 window. Insomniac's previous Spidey games landed in September 2018 and November 2020, so barring any unexpected delays we can be pretty confident in that window.
