As the 2022/23 season approaches, the Los Angeles Lakers have revealed its new Classic Edition jersey to be released for the team's upcoming NBA campaign.
The design celebrates the Lakers' 75th season in the league by recreating the first-ever home uniform worn by the franchise back when it was known as the Minneapolis Lakers in the 1950s.
As a result, the jersey comes dressed in an alternative white, gold, and light blue colour scheme rather than the now iconic yellow and purple design that was eventually adopted by the franchise after its move to LA in the '60s.
So, with the new strip on the horizon, how does the design compare to some of the best basketball jerseys of all time? Well, from what we've seen so far, it's definitely in the conversation... here's everything we know about the Lakers' new Classic Edition kit.
Los Angeles Lakers 2022/23 Classic Edition Jersey Release Date Speculation
Neither Nike nor the Lakers have revealed exactly when the new Classic Edition jersey will be available to purchase, or when the team will wear the strip during the 2022/23 season.
However, with the NBA due to restart this October, there's a chance we could see the Lakers Classic Edition strip drop at some point in the next couple of months.
However, it's also possible we could see the Classic Edition jersey hit retailers once the season gets underway, potentially in November based on when we saw last year's City Edition strip launch.
As there's still some speculation surrounding the release, make sure you check back in with us as we'll be keeping this article updated with the latest announcements from both Nike and the Lakers as and when they arrive.
Los Angeles Lakers 2022/23 Classic Edition Jersey Design
As mentioned, the Lakers' new Classic Edition jersey features a retro white, gold, and blue colour scheme reminiscent of the original Minneapolis Lakers uniforms before the franchise transitioned over to the West.
The usual "Lakers" graphic across the chest has also been given a vintage makeover as the letters have been spelled out in the original Minneapolis typography.
Unlike the current City Edition jersey though, you'll find the numbers stitched to the shirt in Minneapolis’ ’50s era blue only rather than combining it with white.
Nike's traditional logo from the '70s and '80s also makes its return to this jersey as it features on the right-hand side of the chest.
On the left, you'll find the Lakers' current bibigo sponsor in the same Minneapolis blue to round off this Classic Edition design.
Where To Buy The Los Angeles Lakers 2022/23 Classic Edition Jersey
One of the first places you'll likely be able to pick up this new Classic Edition jersey is at the official NBA store under the Los Angeles Lakers subsection.
You should also be able to find the kit listed on the Nike store as part of the Los Angeles Lakers collection on release day.
