Liverpool have one foot in the semi-finals after a frenetic opening half hour at Anfield. In the opening thirty minutes, their pressing paid dividends on three occasions, winning the ball in City's half each time they created a goal.
After 12 minutes, Mohamed Salah took his opportunity when the ball fell to him inside the area after Kyle Walker failed to act decisively and clear the ball.
Eight minutes later, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain doubled the lead when he shot a rocket into City's goal from 20 yards out.
Salah then crossed to find Sadio Mane unmarked, who took his opportunity and headed in.
Liverpool tired and their offensive press faded but, by this point, they had done enough. They saw out their lead effectively in the second half to deny Guardiola's men a vital ray of hope: the away goal.
