The football video game sphere is going to get awfully crowded over the next year, with yet another new title leaked, LEGO 2K Goooal!
After the success of LEGO 2K Drive, the two companies are set for another release together, competing with the likes of FIFA, EA FC, eFootball, Football Manager, UFL and GOALS.
Find out all we know about LEGO 2K Goooal! below, and what we could expect to see from the upcoming title.
LEGO 2K Goooal! Leaked
As reported by Gematsu, we know that LEGO 2K Goooal! is an upcoming title as it was rated by The Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea!
Initially reported by Video Games Chronicle back in February 2022, this looks to be the LEGO football game that was in development and was supposed to be the first release of the LEGO x 2K collaboration.
Instead, LEGO 2K Drive beat it to the punch, and a third sports title is also said to be in development, based on a major sports franchise, and likely to be one of the major US sports.
Part of LEGO's plans to broaden its gaming output after ending its exclusivity agreement with Warner Bros.' TT Games, this could be building the start of a brand new gaming legacy!
World Cup Release?
A LEGO football game was initially meant to coincide with the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, however, that has obviously not happened.
We would expect an official announcement for the game within the next couple of months, so it could drop around the start of the FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, which is set to kick off on Thursday, 20 July.
Being a LEGO game, it won't need to focus so much on the realism of football, so being released at the start of a new season's campaign won't be much of a focus.
However, it would be great for the title to come when the hype around the sport is at a peak, so the World Cup or the start of a new season would be ideal times.
Superhero Sportsmen
With 2K trying to target a younger audience, we could see some wacky combinations coming from the LEGO team-up.
Much like when Nintendo looks to its huge roster of characters to inhabit games, such as with Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, we could see similar games coming from 2K.
LEGO 2K Goooal! may play it straight, just including the regular little yellow figurines in a fun football game, but there could be much more on the cards depending on how their deal with Warner Bros. plays out.
If it is just exclusivity to veto deals with other publishers that are taken away, then we could still see LEGO turn to their previous games for characters.
This could include characters from Star Wars, Indiana Jones, DC, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Disney/Pixar and Marvel!
Unfortunately, it looks unlikely that this will happen, based on the generic characters given to us in LEGO 2K Drive.
Still, we can always dream about a LEGO Marvel vs DC Soccer game or a Harrison Ford showdown between Star Wars and Indiana Jones!
With 2K having a host of sports games under their umbrella, maybe they could look at the success of Wii Sports and create simplified versions of PGA Tour (Golf), NFL (American Football), NBA (Basketball), MLB (Baseball) and NHL (Ice Hockey), hosting multiple mini-games in one big bundle!
