It's safe to say that NetherRealm Studios are one of the most exciting developers out there at the moment - they might work within a niche genre of fighting games, but thwat they do within that genre is at the top of its game. Mortal Kombat 11 has been out for a while and there's a lot of speculation that suggests Injustice 3 is going to be the next game to come from Ed Boon and his team.

Sadly, we don't know if this is the case just yet - Ed Boon and John Tobias didn't wow us at The Game Awards with a swanky new DC fighter. However, that doesn't mean characters from the Injustice series were absent... There was one announcement that has us very excited.

LATEST - No Injustice, just Wonder Woman

Injustice 3 might largely be a pipe dream at the moment, but Monolith announced the game we never thought we needed at The Game Awards last night.

Wonder Woman - a title featuring DC's own Diana Prince - is in development from the team behind the Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War games. We don't know a whole lot about what's coming just that it's going to make the most of the ground-breaking Nemesis System that made these Middle Earth games so special.

There's currently no release date to mention, but expect more information in the coming months.

Could Injustice 3 appear at The Game Awards?

Both Ed Boon and John Tobias have been spotted around the location of The Game Awards thanks to an instagram post from Tobais' son.

Interestingly, among the hashtags on the post was #MortalKombat12 but all recent signs have pointed towards Injustice 3 being the studios next project. Perhaps we'll get confirmation of that tonight.

Injustice 3 Up Next?

Injustice 3 could be NetherRealm's next project and could be announced as soon as this weekend. Ed Boon is set to appear during the event in an unspecified role. This is what has fuelled the speculation that a new Injustice title is on the way.

Injustice has received its own Hollywood adaptation

We haven't received the usual Twitter teases from Boon himself which is his way of having fun with the community. Perhaps it's too soon for an official reveal with a release date and trailer but we'll take info he's willing to reveal!

What else could NetherRealm work on?

If Injustice 3 isn't the next project for NetherRealm, is it possible that they're returning to the Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe idea they started back in 2008? It's often considered one of the studios more underrated titles that eventually led to the creation of the Injustice franchise.

Mortal Kombat 11 reached 'end of life' status earlier this year

There is also the very real possibility that they move straight on to Mortal Kombat 12 and Boon's DC Fandome showing has nothing to do with a planned Injustice 3 project. It would be very strange if the idea wasn't being thrown around though as the two previous titles have proven incredibly popular with a wide range of fans.
