Can you play Guardians of the Galaxy in co-op splitscreen multiplayer?

Guardians of the Galaxy is finally here and there's so much to look forward to on your heroic trip around the unknown.

Peter Quill is grabbing adventure by the collar and shouting the name "Star-Lord" at it with his team of loveable rogues - Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot. The Guardians of the Galaxy are a team - so can you play this new iteration of their adventures as a team? Does the Guardians of the Galaxy game offer co-op splitscreen multiplayer?

Here's everything we know about that - sometimes a Star-Lord needs to fly solo.

Does Guardians of the Galaxy have co-op multiplayer?

Sadly, Square Enix's Guardians of the Galaxy game does not have co-op features or split-screen multiplayer. You might be playing a "Guardians of the Galaxy" game, but you can only play as Peter Quill in this one.

This might seem like a shot missed with Star-Lord Element Blaster, but it actually lends itself well to the way Guardians of the Galaxy is built.

Star-Lord is the leader of this group and as Star-Lord, you have to carefully navigate the relationships between yourself and the other members - and those between other members. Guardians of the Galaxy features several in-game decisions which shape the way the story pans out.

FLARKIN' HELL - You're on your own for this one

It's a linear story, sure, but there's some wiggle room. This is where Guardians of the Galaxy has made the right choice in keeping multiplayer off the cards.

Patrick Fortier, Senior Gameplay Director for Guardians of the Galaxy, said the following:

" If you only play as Peter, you experience the team more like you would in real life... When you’re part of the team, you don’t control the team, you suffer the team. Sometimes you influence the team, sometimes two will think alike and sway you in a certain direction…that feels rich for the Guardians of the Galaxy."

Playing as one character makes these interpersonal relationships feel more authentic - it might be a shame that you can't experience this adventure with a friend, but it helps build the characters on display and pulls you into become a part of their world.
