The third season of the Gfinity Elite Series is over, and it’s time to reflect. In its debut season, FIFA 18 was the star of the show, and fittingly, AS Roma backed franchise Fnatic came through the playoffs to pull off a shock victory. Fnatic pairing Zimme and Rannerz were the highest scorers in the competition, and they were more than worthy winners at the Gfinity Arena in London.
RealSport looks at the biggest winners and losers from the tournament, and where these players go from here.
Winners
There were plenty of established FIFA players coming into the Elite Series despite it being the EA Sports title’s debut year. It was the less familiar names however, who grabbed the headlines.
Zimme
Team: AS Roma Fnatic
Console: PlayStation 4
Finish: Champions
Record: 5 wins, 1 loss
Goals scored: 23
The undisputed star of the Elite Series. Fnatic’s Zimme was relentless in front of goal in London, with a 6-1 victory over Nordavind’s Diogo Peixoto in the playoffs the showcase highlight. The Swede did ride his luck in the semifinal against hot favourite EisVogel, but he forced the tie all the way to penalties to take his side through to the final
To cap things off, the 18-year-old honoured his Tweet stating that he would get the Brazilian Ronaldo ‘R9’ haircut from the 2002 World Cup if he were to win the competition. We look forward to seeing how Zimme performs in the next stage on the Road to the eWorld Cup, and for how long he keeps his new trim.
