The 2022/23 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season is entering its twenty-second gameweek and things are really starting to hot up now.
With double gameweeks coming thick and fast, FPL managers are beginning to utilise their chips.
Those of you who haven't already used your Triple Captain chip may be deliberating between playing it on Marcus Rashford (£7.2m) in GW22 and Erling Haaland (£12.2m) in GW23.
Well, we're here to help. In this article, we will be comparing Rashford and Haaland on their form, fixtures, opponents and points predictions for their respective double gameweeks in Fantasy.
Form
Erling Haaland has been simply sensational since making the switch from Dortmund to Manchester City last summer.
The Norway international striker is scoring goals at a rate that we have never seen in the Premier League before, having netted 25 goals and picked up a further three assists in 19 matches.
Marcus Rashford, on the other hand, is in the form of his life at the moment.
The England international has registered six league goals and one assist since GW14 and has been scoring for fun in cup competitions too.
Here's how their underlying stats compare for the 2022/23 PL season so far:
- Goals per 90 minutes - Rashford: 0.5, Haaland: 1.46
- Assists per 90 minutes - Rashford: 0.17, Haaland: 0.17
- Goals + assists per 90 minutes - Rashford: 0.5, Haaland: 1.46
- Expected goals per 90 minutes - Rashford: 0.42, Haaland: 0.98
Fixtures
Rashford will have two home fixtures in DGW22 against Crystal Palace and Leeds.
Haaland will face Aston Villa at home before travelling to North London to play the league leaders, Arsenal in DGW23.
Manchester United DGW22 fixtures:
- Crystal Palace (H)
- Leeds (H)
Manchester City DGW23 fixtures:
- Aston Villa (H)
- Arsenal (A)
Rashford's fixtures are the more favourable of the two here on paper.
Opposition
Let's take a more in-depth look at the two potential Triple Captain's opponents.
Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace seem to have stalled after a promising 2021/22 campaign.
Although Patrick Vieira's side is packed full of quality, it doesn't carry much attacking threat.
Crystal Palace's away record this season is as follows:
- Won 2, Drew 3, Lost 4
- Goals per game: 0.9
- Goals conceded per game: 1.35
Leeds
Leeds United have signed some talented attacking players over the past two transfer windows, but remain weak defensively and are likely to concede goals.
Leeds have conceded four or more goals on each of the last three occasions they have faced Manchester United.
Leeds' away record this season is as follows:
- Won 1, Drew 2, Lost 6
- Goals per game: 1.37
- Goals conceded per game: 1.74
Aston Villa
New manager Unai Emery has brought some defensive stability at the back for Villa.
Two clean sheets in their last four matches prove they are not easy to break down, although a challenging test at the Etihad awaits.
Aston Villa's away record this season is as follows:
- Won 3, Drew 2, Lost 5
- Goals per game: 1.15
- Goals conceded per game: 1.35
Arsenal
Arsenal sit five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table, with a game in hand.
The Gunners are unbeaten at home this season, boasting great defensive stats as well as a brilliant attacking record.
Arsenal's home record this season is as follows:
- Won 8, Drew 1, Lost 0
- Goals per game: 2.37
- Goals conceded per game: 0.84
Points predictions
It's important to take points predictions with a pinch of salt, as they are essentially based on player odds.
Rashford's predicted points in DGW22 are 14.6.
Haaland's predicted points in DGW23 are 12.3.
You may also consider how the absence of Christian Eriksen could affect Manchester United's performances and attacking output.
