Manchester United have officially hired Ralf Rangnick as their new manager, with the German taking the role on an initial interim period.

Rangnick's Interim Period

Clayts' simulation brought up many surprising results, not least the fact that Ralf Rangnick managed to mastermind Manchester United's first Champions League victory since 2008.

The German tactical genius out-smarted Bayern Munich in the final, with Rangnick's Red Devils also picking up the Carabao Cup by beating West Ham at Wembley in his first 6 months in charge.

Rangnick's Premier League performance turned out to be less impressive, but the German still managed to guide United to an admirable 4th placed finish, something most fans would accept at this point.

Ralf's Style

One of the biggest questions surrounding Rangnick's appointment is what style of football will he play during his tenure.

A man that demands constant pressing, Football Manager 2022 predicts that Rangnick will deploy a 4-4-2 formation at Old Trafford, something that worked to devastating effect in United's Champions League final win against Bayern.

Ralf's Future Influence

Clayts didn't just simulate the first six month of Rangnick's tenure, he also looked further into the future and once again found some interesting results.

The master tactician signed three high profile players in his first two transfer windows: Steven Bergwijn from Spurs, as well as Benjamin Pavard and Kingsley Coman from Bayern Munich.

In 2026 - five years from the point that Rangnick took over - Football Manager 2022 predicts Manchester United to be a very different beast, with Pep Guardiola now the man at the helm.

Overall, Rangnick lasted until the end of the 2023-24 season, winning the Premier League once and capturing 7 major trophies along the way, including three Champions League victories.

It's fair to say that Football Manager 2022 believes that Rangnick will have a major influence at Old Trafford, and we're certain that United fans would be elated if the German can emulate even half of that success in real life.
