It doesn’t matter how hands on you are as a manager on Football Manager 2019, you will want the best assistant possible to help with your decision making. Whether it be getting your assistant to pick the team for the next fixtures, tactical changes in-game or providing summaries on the opposition, your assistant can do it all, and he will be the man you lean on most during your career.
So, who are the best assistant coaches on the FM19? Just like players, staff also have CA (Current Ability) and PA (Potential Ability) ratings.
Marco Landucci (CA 170 – PA 177)
Age: 54
Team: Juventus
Country: Italy
Best attributes: 18 temperament, 15 professionalism, 15 pressure
Marco Landucci serves as Massimiliano Allegri’s number two at Juventus, having linked up with the Italian at AC Milan, where he was only the goalkeeping coach. The pair have claimed Serie A with Juve four years in a row, and at 54, you wonder if Landucci is now considering a managerial career of his own.
Rui Faria (CA 170 – PA 170)
Age: 43
Team: Unemployed
Country: Portugal
Best attributes: 20 loyalty, 18 adaptability, 17 professionalism
Without a club after leaving Manchester United last summer, Rui Faria is likely to be your number one choice as an assistant coach on FM 19. The 43-year-old worked under Jose Mourinho ever since their Porto days, where he was the fitness coach, and has served as the Special One’s assistant since they moved to Chelsea. With three Premier Leagues, two Serie As, a La Liga, a Champions League and a Europa League to his name, Faria is now eying up a manager’s role, hence why he left Manchester United at the end of last season.
Jesus Perez (CA 170 – PA 170)
Age: 46
Team: Tottenham Hotspur
Country: Spain
Best attributes: 16 loyalty, 16 professionalism, 16 temperament
Jesus Perez is Mauricio Pochettino’s partner in crime at Tottenham, with the pair first working together at Espanyol. Perez was just the conditioning coach, but was made assistant manager after joining Pochettino at Southampton and then at Spurs. No silverware has been claimed just yet, something that may only be achieved if they leave North London.
Marco Domenichini (CA 157 – PA 165)
Age: 59
Team: Inter Milan
Country: Italy
Best attributes: 20 adaptability, 16 man management, 16 tactical knowledge
Number two to Luciano Spalletti at Inter Milan, Marco Domenichini has served under his fellow Italian for 14 years now. The duo first linked up at Udinese, before going on to Roma, Zenit St Petersburg, Roma again and now Inter. In that period they have claimed two Coppa Italias and a Russian Premier League with their current Inter side perhaps capable of overthrowing Juventus in the years ahead.
Peter Krawietz (CA 155 – PA 165)
Age: 46
Team: Liverpool
Country: Germany
Best attributes: 18 professionalism, 17 loyalty, 16 ambition
Peter Krawietz is Jurgen Klopp’s assistant, having first worked as his chief scout at Mainz in the early noughties. The 46-year-old then became Klopp’s number two at Borussia Dortmund before following him to Liverpool. Two Bundesligas and a German Cup is a useful return, but there have been some near misses too, losing in the Champions League final with both Dortmund and Liverpool, as well as further losses in the Europa League and League Cup finals with the Reds.
Massimiliano Farris (CA 155 – PA 163)
Age: 47
Team: Lazio
Country: Italy
Best attributes: 17 professionalism, 16 sportsmanship, 15 pressure
Massimiliano Farris has managerial experience of his own, having helmed three lower league Italian teams before taking up the assistant manager’s role at Lazio. He served under Stefano Pioli for just one match before the manager was sacked, but has partnered Simone Inzaghi ever since. The pair missed out on Champions League football on the final day of last season, but currently hold fourth place in the current campaign.
German Burgos (CA 155 – PA 155)
Age: 49
Team: Atletico Madrid
Country: Argentina
Best attributes: 18 controversy, 17 pressure, 16 ambition
Former goalkeeper German Burgos is Diego Simeone’s right-hand man, with the pair working together for close to eight years now. They started together at Catania in Italy, before heading back to their native Argentina with Racing Club, before transforming Atletico Madrid into a world class outfit. With Atletico they have claimed a La Liga, Copa del Rey and two Europa League titles.
Sidnei Lobo (CA 153 – PA 174)
Age: 48
Team: Cruzeiro (CEC)
Country: Brazil
Best attributes: 19 professionalism, 18 sportsmanship, 18 temperament
A man you may not be familiar with is Sidnei Lobo who has served as Brazilian journeyman Mano Menezes’ assistant at various clubs. After working under Luiz Felipe Scolari and Celso Roth at Gremio, Menezes then came along for Lobo and the pair have since worked together at Corinthians twice, the Brazil national team, Flamengo, Shandong Luneng and Cruzeiro twice.
Seppo Eichkorn (CA 153 – PA 155)
Age: 61
Team: Unemployed
Country: Germany
Best attributes: 13 professionalism, 12 loyalty, 11 ambition
Seppo Eichkorn is another man currently without a job, but has plenty of experience. The 61-year-old is unlike many other assistants coaches having worked with plenty of managers, but did work alongside Felix Magath at four clubs. Starting at St Pauli and then Duisburg (where he had a stint as manager), Eichkorn linked up with Magath at Stuttgart in 2001, and would then follow him to Bayern Munich, Wolfsburg and then Schalke, but then stayed on after the manager left in 2011.
Zsolt Low (CA 150 – PA 160)
Age: 39
Team: Paris Saint-Germain
Country: Hungary
Best attributes: 17 professionalism, 16 adaptability, 15 ambition
A completely different route for Zsolt Low, who has worked under five different managers at four clubs. There was a clear route at first however, starting at Liefering in Austria, the second team to RB Salzburg, before moving on to the senior team. A year later he joined fellow Red Bull owned side RB Leipzig, helping them achieve promotion to the Bundesliga and then finish second in their first top-flight season. He was then headhunted by fellow German Thomas Tuchel to join him at French giants PSG this year.
