FIFA 22 Roma Career Mode Guide: Starting lineup and who to sign

Roma is historically one of the biggest clubs in Italian football, but the side hasn't claimed the title in over 20 years now!

So, have you got what it takes to take Roma back to the very top and challenge for major trophies in FIFA 22 Career Mode?

Team Rating

Roma has a 4.5-star rating in FIFA 22.

The breakdown of the ratings is as follows: ATT 77, MID 79, DEF 78.

Starting Lineup and Formation

The 4-2-3-1 formation is most suitable for Roma in order to get the most out of their attackers whilst remaining defensively solid at the back.

The wide or narrow variation can be used depending on your own personal preference.

Starting with the and striker, Tammy Abraham. The English forward is one of the most promising players in the team and is already rated 79 OVR.

SOLID SYSTEM - You can't go wrong with the 4-2-3-1 in FIFA 22

The three creative players operating in the space behind Abraham are Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Nicolo Zaniolo, who should provide both goals and assists for the team.

Giving the team defensively stability in midfield are Bryan Cristante and Jordan Veretout.

In the full-back positions are Leonardo Spinazzola and Rick Karsdorp, whilst Gianluca Mancini partners Roger Ibanez in central defence.

Rui Patricio is the man between the sticks.

Tactics and Instructions

With Tammy Abraham being the main target up front, we want to maximise his goal threat.

So, instruct the striker to Stay Forward, Get In Behind and Stay Central to give him the best possible chance of a sight at goal.

Left-back, Spinazzola, is the more attacking of the two full-backs, so instruct the Italian international to Overlap, whilst keeping Karsdrop on Stay Back While Attacking.

Make sure you instruct your two defensive midfielders to Cover Centre and Stay Back While Attacking, or you may leave yourself vulnerable to the counter attack.

Development Plans

When it comes to developing youngsters, there are a fair few players to be aware of in this Roma squad.

Tammy Abraham (POT 86), Lorenzo Pellegrini (POT 86) and Nicolo Zaniolo (POT 86) can be transformed into a top-class attacking trio with just a few years of training.

Mancini (POT 83)and Ibanez (POT 84) can also be developed into a formidable central defensive duo after a couple of seasons.

Transfer Market

Starting budget: £40 million

Who should go?

Roma seems to have several older players who can be sold in order to generate funds for young, high-quality signings.

Davide Santon (OVR 73), Chris Smalling (OVR 78) and Federico Fazio (OVR 74) can all go to free up some funds for new signings.

We would be tempted to let Henrikh Mkhitaryan (OVR 82) leave, as he is reaching the twilight of his career and will only decrease in value.

Bryan Cristante (OVR 79) can also be sold, as he just doesn't have the stats to fit the 'meta' of FIFA 22.

The following youngsters can be sold as their potential rating is not high enough in FIFA 22 to challenge for a first-team spot:

Felix Afena-Gyan, Pietro Boer, Filippo Tripi, Edoardo Bove

Loans

Riccardo Calafiori (POT 81) is one of the most promising youngsters on the books who isn't near the first team at the moment, so a loan spell early on could do him the world of good.

Matías Viña (POT 81), Gonzalo Villar del Fraile (POT 81) and Carles Perez Sayol (POT 81) are all promising young players capable of becoming Serie A quality.

Roma already have several players out on loan too, with Justin Kluivert (POT 82), Cengiz Under (POT 79) and Yildirim Mert Cetin (POT 79) the ones to keep an eye on.

Who to sign?

Once you sell Cristante and Mkhitaryan, the main areas which will need filling are the centre-midfield and winger positions.

A box-to-box midfielder who can break up the play but also drive forward and support the attack is exactly what we are after.

AC Milan’s Franck Kessie (OVR 84) is our favourite in this position, and if you are prepared to wait a season you could snap him up on a free!

With an incredible 94 Stamina and high work rates both defensively and offensively, Kessie really does cover every blade of grass.

Now that you've got the central midfield role sorted, we need to find a young winger who can grow into a top player along with the other promising forwards.

Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli (OVR 76) would be our number one choice, coming in at a low price with the potential to become world-class.
