The latest FIFA 22 ratings update has now gone live, and EA has made some significant changes this week.
Manchester United players are under the microscope once again and this week it's the Red Devils defence that has been targetted and rightly so.
Disastrous defence
Manchester United's defence has been calamitous at times this season and the frailties were highlighted in the derby defeat to Man City last weekend.
United were torn apart by Manchester City, succumbing to a 4-1 defeat that leaves them outside of the Premier League's top four, a point behind Arsenal despite having played three games more than the Gunners.
The display by United's defence was so bad, it posed the question of whether they should reconsider their transfer priorities for the summer so as to bolster their backline.
It has become the norm to see Pep Guardiola’s side dominate derbies, even if United have emerged victorious from the Etihad Stadium on a number of occasions, but this was a performance that verged on embarrassing by the end.
Amid reports that his teammates have questioned whether he should be in the team, Harry Maguire put in one of his worst performances in a United shirt.
Raphael Varane was unavailable here due to testing positive for Covid-19, meaning Rangnick had little choice than to select his club captain, but Maguire’s display at the Etihad will do nothing to convince any doubters that he is the answer for United at the back.
French flop
Man United fans had high hopes for World Cup and Champions League winner Raphael Varane when they signed him from Real Madrid in the summer.
However, the Frenchman hasn't quite brought the defensive stability that he was signed for.
EA has downgraded Raphael Varane from an 86 OVR to an 85 OVR player in FIFA 22, with big hits to his reactions and stamina.
We feel this is slightly unfair on Varane who has been largely solid for United but has struggled with injuries and hasn't developed a consistent centre-back partnership yet.
Big money mistake
Another defensive signing that hasn't quite worked out is that of English right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Manchester United signed the now 24-year-old for a fee of £55 million from London club Crystal Palace.
Wan-Bisakka has failed to nail down his spot as the Red Devil's number one right-back, consistently showing weaknesses when in possession of the ball.
The Englishman has just received his second downgrade since arriving at Old Trafford and is now rated as an 81 OVR player in FIFA 22.
