It looks like we could have our first new feature revealed ahead of FIFA 22 after a job description on EA's site mentions an 'online Career Mode'.
The classic game mode has needed a revamp for some time now to try and keep up with the popularity of Ultimate Team, and this could be it.
Take a look below.
FIFA 22
FIFA 22 is still some way off, but EA Play Live should give us our first glimpse of the game in a few weeks time.
This will be the first fully-optimised version of the game for Next-Gen consoles, the expectation is understandably high.
The incredible graphic capability of the Xbox Series X|S and PS5 should make the game look just like real-life, and the almost non-existent loading times mean you can jump into games with a minimum of fuss.
All this points in the direction of FIFA 22 being the best version of the game ever!
Career Mode
FIFA Career Mode has been neglected in the past as Ultimate Team has taken over, however, EA did make some improvements last season.
The new player development and academy systems are much better, although not the finished product.
It still feels as though the game mode is a bit shallow, with no storylines or back story just yet.
We know it is impossible to replicate the detail of Football Manager, but there is certainly a more immersive option that EA could explore.
Online
It is time to get excited Career Mode fans, as the old-time classic mode could be taken to a new level next season.
Fans have longed for the mode to allow online play so players can play with their friends, and this could be it.
EA looks to have revealed the plans for the new feature, with part of the job description for Online Software Engineer reading as follows:
"As an Online Software Engineer, you will help build our networked play development team – whether that be in our online career mode, ultimate team, or core online systems and protocols.
"We are looking for engineers who enjoy prototyping and planning, adding amazing new features to an existing and beloved game, and improving existing code."
How this works we will have to wait and see, but it has certainly piqued our interest!
High hopes
We can only speculate on how an online Career Mode will work.
Will it be a PvP style mode where various teams in the league are controlled by other FIFA players?
This seems a bit of a stretch, and we think it could be a more social mode to allow you and your friends to play together.
Either way, we can't wait to see what EA has up its sleeve.
