Is Future Stars Todibo FIFA's best French defender?

FIFA's Future Stars promo has really lived up to its potential.

And whilst the squads themselves have been great, it's the SBC and Objectives players that FIFA fans have been the most impressed with.

French centre back Jean-Clair Todibo is no different, and he may just be the best French defender in FIFA 21.

Future Stars Todibo

The Nice centre back has joined the Future Stars promo via a limited-time SBC, after your votes helped to earn him a place in the squad.

Many people were expecting to see Leicester City centre back Wesley Fofana, but it's Todibo who EA have opted for.

But how good is this card, and have we finally found a card that can trump the fan favourite Raphael Varane?

Ball Playing Defender

Few centre backs can proclaim to have 4* skills, but Todibo is one of them.

The 6'3" CB has all the necessary capabilities to avoid conceding goals - namely 87 defending and 84 physicality - but it's his ability on the ball that has got tails wagging.

80 dribbling, 76 passing and 4* skills are something that you don't see very often when it comes to defenders, let alone centre backs.

If you enjoy playing the ball out from the back in a Pep Guardiola-esque manner, then there is simply no better option for you.

Links

And not only is this an elite-level card, but it is also one that you can easily link into a variety of different squads, both lineups and formations.

Those who completed the Layvin Kurzawa Player Moments SBC earlier this year will be rubbing their hands together in delight due to the perfect link between the two.

There is also the obvious link to Raphael Varane, with the two sure to make a fearsome duo at the heart of your defence.

Meanwhile, if you're thinking about a three at the back formation, we'd recommend sticking Todibo at the heart of the three, with Varane to the left and current TOTW centre back Pascal Kimpembe to the right.

The possibilities are endless.

Price

The potential sticking point with this SBC is the price.

Around the 200k mark is the asking price from EA if you were to complete the challenges from scratch, which isn't bad value at all.

That's if you don't mind having untradeable cards in your club.

GOAT - Few can claim to be better than Raphael Varane

However, you can pick Varane up for between 80-120k depending on your platform, and that comes with far less risk as we all know about the Madrid mans quality on the FIFA front.

If you've got the funds though, we feel this could be one of, if not the best, centre back pairing in FIFA this year.

Verdict

It'll take some time to decide whether or not Todibo has the better of Varane, but there's no questioning he'll run his fellow countryman close.

You won't regret completing this SBC.
