70. Marcelo (OVR 88 – 86)

Position: LB

Age: 31

Club: Real Madrid

Country: Brazil

This time last year, it would have been hard to argue
against Marcelo’s being the best left back in the world, but there are signs
that the wheels are coming off for the Brazilian. As one of the leaders of the
dressing room at Real Madrid he must share the blame for their woeful 2018/19
campagin, a season in which he was often dropped from the starting 11 in favour
of youngster Sergio Reguilon (OVR 64).

With now a more apt replacement at the club in Ferland Mendy (OVR 79), the pressure is on Marcelo, with is FIFA 20 OVR likely to drop to 86.

69. James Rodriguez (OVR 88 – 86)

Position: CAM, CM, RW

Age: 28

Club: Real Madrid

Country: Colombia

It’s also been a strange year for James Rodriguez. At the
end of the 2017/18 campaign he was the Bundesliga player of the season, but
fast forward a year – and he requested Bayern Munich to not make his loan deal
permanent. He has the task of salvaging a ropey Real Madrid side, and an early
season calf injury hasn’t helped his cause.

A drop to 86 is the minimum we can expect for James, but at
28, there is still time for him to push back towards the 90s.

68. Dries Mertens (OVR 87 – 86)

Position: CF, ST

Age: 32

Club: Napoli

Country: Belgium

Dries Mertens is one of the most consistent performers in
Europe, but age may now be against at 32. The Belgian forward still bagged 19
goals in all competitions last season, as well as 12 assists, but that is still
a smaller return than the he managed this season before.

It may seem harsh, but expect him to be docked a point to 86.

67. Casemiro (OVR 88 – 86)

Position: CDM

Age: 27

Club: Real Madrid

Country: Brazil

A third Real Madrid player already, but whereas the other
players have injuries and age to blame, Casemiro does not. The 27-year-old
should be about to enter the prime of his career, but struggled to pick up the
slack with the aging legs of Luka Modric next to him. The Brazilian had a huge rise
into the Real Madrid side – recalled from a loan spell at Porto, to becoming a
invaluable figure under Zinedine Zidane, winning four Champions League titles.

His 88 overall should drop to 86, but with Zidane back in
charge, there is no reason he cannot get back up to heights of the late 80s.

66. Ciro Immobile (OVR 87 – 86)

Position: ST

Age: 29

Club: Lazio

Country: Italy

A deadly finisher, it’s about time world football started
respecting Ciro Immobile. The striker scored 19 goals last season, but this
wasn’t quite the crazy 40 he managed the season before. With just seven goals
in 35 Italy caps, there is clearly something missing, but give him an inch and
he will hurt any defence.

A drop to 86 seems likely, after halving his goal output
last season.

65. Milan Skriniar (OVR 86 – 86)

Position: CB

Age: 23

Club: Inter Milan

Country: Slovakia

A centre half who has risen to the top over the past two
seasons, and it very fortunate for Inter Milan that the transfer market
obsessions were over the likes of Matthijs De Ligt and Harry Maguire this
summer rather than Milan Skriniar. Now with defensive coach Antonio Conte at
the helm, expect the Inter man to only improve, playing alongside Miranda (OVR
85) and Stefan de Vrij (OVR 84) in a back three.

An 86 overall should remain for the 23-year-old, and that could rise by January if the defence clicks into place.

64. Thomas Vertonghen (OVR 87 – 86)

Position: CB

Age: 32

Club: Tottenham

Country: Belgium

He may be Tottenham’s most experienced defender, but it
could be the beginning of the end for Jan Vertonghen. With Davinson Sanchez
(OVR 84) waiting in the wings, you wonder how much longer the 32-year-old will
remain in Tottenham’s back four.

A drop to 86 seems natural at his age, and in-game that
could fall further if he is dropped by Mauricio Pochettino.

63. Fernandinho (OVR 87 – 86)

Position: CDM

Age: 34

Club: Manchester City

Country: Brazil

Fernandinho was central to Manchester City’s success last
season, and without him they would have lost the title. A long-term replacement
has finally been found for the aging Brazilian in to form of Rodri, but still
expect him to be solid when used in rotation.

His in-game rating will fall further throughout the course
of FIFA 20, but for now he drops to just 86.

62. Toby Alderweireld (OVR 87 – 86)

expand image
expand image

Position: CB

Age: 30

Club: Tottenham

Country: Belgium

Now at the prime of his career, expect Toby Alderweireld to lead
Tottenham’s defensive line this season after deciding to stay at the club. A
shortage of right backs has seen deputise at right back already this term, but
Pochettino will want his best defender at the heart of the backline as they
look to challenge the Premier League top two.

A winter boost from 85 to 87 seemed generous for
Alderweireld, with 86 are more apt rating for FIFA 20.

61. Marco Veratti (OVR 86 – 86)

expand image
expand image

Position: CM, CDM

Age: 26

Club: PSG

Country: Italy

Marco Verratti is a nightmare to play against. Constantly
nipping at opposing defenders’ heels and then stroking the ball around the park
when in possession, the Frenchman is the best midfielder in France. At 26, it’s
time for him to show off is quality, but it may take a big money move to get
the acclaim he deserves.

An 86 overall should remaining, with an 87 rating in touching distance.
