Position: CB

Age: 28

Club: Liverpool

Country: Netherlands

An increase of 85 to 90 doesn’t sound seismic, but Virgil
van Dijk has had the best 12 months of any footballer on the planet. The Dutchman
took Liverpool to within a point of a deserved Premier League title, before
going one better and claiming the Champions League.

He didn’t stop there, skippering a Dutch side that lost in
the UEFA Nations League final. The athletic may even feel aggrieved he is not closer
to Messi & Ronaldo after claiming the UEFA Player of the Year award.

Kai Havertz (OVR 79 – 84)

One of the hottest prospects in world football, Kai Havertz
burst into life at Bayer Leverkusen last year. The wonderkid scored 20 goals
and added seven assists in all competitions, turning heads at some of the

With Julian Brandt leaving the BayArena over the summer, Havertz

Position: ST

Age: 21

Club: Real Madrid

Country: Serbia

Benfica – Eintracht Frankfurt – Real Madrid. What a 12 months
it has been for Luka Jovic. The Serbian striker is just 21 years old and found
himself subject to a £54 million move to Real Madrid, less than two months after
his loan move from Benfica to Eintracht had been made permanent – for just £6.3
million.

He may have to wait in the wings behind Karim Benzema, but
when Jovic has the chance, he rarely misses.

Nicolas Pepe (OVR 75 – 83)

Position: RM, RW, ST

Age: 24

Club: Arsenal

Country: Ivory Coast

Nicolas Pepe, you know that average winger playing in
France? Few would have heard of the Ivorian a year ago, but he has had a useful
few seasons at Lille. His first season at the French side, where they were threatened
with relegation, he netted 14 goals and picked up five assists. A year later
and he had a further 23 goals and 12 assists to his name.

If the £72 million Arsenal signing gels with fellow attackers Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, the Gunners can forget their defensive troubles and blow teams away.

Another man with three clubs in a year, Krzysztof Piatek signed
for Genoa for just over £3 million from Cracovia at the start of the campaign.
Fast forward six months and that fee had multiplied by 10 – joining giants AC Milan
for £31 million.

His 30 goals for the two Italian clubs in a season made him
top scorer for both sides. Now he can do more damage with a whole season at
