Diego Simeone has seen an overhaul of his squad this summer. Experienced defenders Juanfran, Filipe Luis and Diego Godin have all departed along with left back Lucas Hernandez. Rodri has transferred to Man City for £63 million whilst Luciano Vietto and Gelson Martins have both left the club permanently following loan spells.
Atletico have brought in talent of their own, and Joao Felix is the talk of the town as he arrives with a £113 million price tag. Hector Herrera and Felipe have arrived from Porto and Marcos Llorente has joined from bitter rivals Real Madrid. And Spurs full back Kieran Trippier.
With much change to the squad this summer, how will Atletico Madrid line up on FIFA 20?
Jan Oblak (OVR 90 - 91)
Position: GK
Age: 26
Country: Slovenia
Slovenian goalkeeper Jan Oblak is one of the best in the world. The 26-year-old is closing in on 100 career clean sheets in La Liga and should achieve that milestone this season. Oblak is set to receive a 91 overall on FIFA 20 as he challenges to be the world’s best goalkeeper.
Santiago Arias (OVR 79 - 79)
Position: RB
Age: 27
Country: Colombia
Santiago Arias will start the season as Atletico right back as the returning Sime Vrsaljko is injured until the end of October. Colombian Arias made 25 appearances in his first season under Simeone and will hope to contribute more assists than the one he made last season. The 27-year-old will remain a 79 overall on FIFA 20.
Jose Gimenez (OVR 84 - 85)
Position: CB
Age: 24
Country: Uruguay
One of La Liga’s best young defenders, Jose Gimenez will be a regular feature at the heart of Atleti’s defence this season. The Uruguayan international will need to step up in the absence on Diego Godin, however he is more than capable of doing so. Gimenez could see his overall rise to 85 on FIFA 20.
Felipe (OVR 83 - 83)
Position: CB
Age: 30
Country: Brazil
Felipe is one of the number of players leaving Porto this season in a mass exodus. The 30-year-old cost Atletico Madrid £18 million and could prove to be a clever piece of business by Simeone. The one time Brazilian international will be an 83 OVR on FIFA 20.
Renan Lodi (OVR 70)
Position: LB
Age: 21
Country: Brazil
21-year-old Renan Lodi joins from Brazilian side Paranaense and is currently the only recognised left back in the squad as Filipe Luis and Lucas Hernandez have left the club. It is expected that Atletico will look to bring in another left back that will start ahead of the unproven Lodi. He is likely to receive an overall of 70 on FIFA 20.
Koke (OVR 85 - 85)
Position: LM, RM, CM
Age: 27
Country: Spain
A mainstay in the Atletico line-up, Koke has proven to be a classy ball-player happy to play anywhere in midfield. The 27-year-old will provide much needed experience to a youthful squad as Atletico look to challenge for the league once more. Koke will receive an overall of 85 on FIFA 20, but could be upgraded to even higher.
Hector Herrera (OVR 81 - 82)
Position: CM
Age: 29
Country: Mexico
The second arrival from Porto, Hector Herrera is an energetic central midfield player who can also score goals. The Mexican bagged nine from midfield for Porto last season but will face stiff competition for a place in the starting 11 at Atletico Madrid. The 29-year-old will keep his 82 OVR on FIFA 20.
Saul Niguez (OVR 85 - 85)
Position: CM, LM, RM
Age: 24
Country: Spain
Saul Niguez is another quality technician and is arguably Atletico’s best midfielder. Similar to Koke in his qualities, Saul can play across the midfield and has made 193 La Liga appearances already at 24. Saul could reach 86 on FIFA 20, but is likely to remain an 85 for now.
Thomas Lemar (OVR 83 - 83)
Position: LM, CAM, RM
Age: 23
Country: France
Part of the talented AS Monaco side that thrilled everyone in their Champions League run, Thomas Lemar joined Atletico with big things expected of him. Two goals and three assists is not a good enough return for the 23-year-old but expect him to bounce back and have a bigger impact this season. Lemar will keep his 83 OVR on FIFA 20 but could get an early upgrade should his form warrant it.
Joao Felix (OVR 69 - 81)
Position: CF, ST
Age: 19
Country: Portugal
At just 19 years' old, Joao Felix cost Atletico a remarkable £113 million. Having only made his senior debut for Benfica last August, Felix’s rise to stardom has been nothing short of phenomenal. Felix bagged 15 goals and nine assists in just 26 league appearances last season and was rewarded with his first international cap. Expect Felix to receive an overall of 81 on FIFA 20 as he is one of Europe’s brightest talents.
Alvaro Morata (OVR 83 - 82)
Position: ST
Age: 26
Country: Spain
On-loan Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata bagged six goals in 15 appearances after he joined Atletico in January and he is in pole position to start upfront this season. Diego Costa has an eight-game suspension and Antoine Griezmann is set to leave the club leaving Morata and Nikola Kalinic as the only options. If Morata can replicate the form that made Chelsea sign him for £60 million then he may see his overall boosted early, however he is likely to start as an 82 overall on FIFA 20.

On the Bench
32-year-old Antonio Adan (OVR 83 - 82) will continue as number two behind Oblak and will see limited game time. Andre Moreira (OVR 71 - 66) has returned to the club after his loan spell in Portugal and will battle Adan for the backup spot.
Montenegro centre back Stefan Savic (OVR 83 - 83) will play an important role this season and will challenge Felipe for a starting spot. Youngsters Francisco Montero (OVR 66) and Nehuen Perez (OVR 70) will be required to fill in and play a supporting role to the three main centre backs.
Sime Vrsaljko (OVR 81 - 81) has completed his loan spell at Inter, but his knee injury will keep him out until late October. The Croatian is a reliable right back and will compete with Arias once he is fit. Kieran Trippier (OVR 82 - 81) has recently completed his £25 million move to Atletico, He is likely to start amidst rumours of Arias heading to Everton. However, if this deal does not happen, then he will be in competition for a starting place.
Atletico Madrid have solid defensive midfield options from the bench with Thomas Partey (OVR 82 - 82) and new signing Diego Llorente (OVR 76 - 77) in their squad. It is unlikely that these two will play together, but they would compliment the more attacking talents of Koke, Saul and Herrera in a central midfield partnership.
Exciting Argentine Angel Correa (OVR 80 - 81) and Spaniard Vitolo (OVR 81 - 81) offer options in the wide areas. Correa can play in an attacking midfield role and striker while Vitolo is a more versatile and defensive option.
Diego Costa (OVR 85 - 84) will serve an eight-game ban, therefore missing the start of the season. Croatian Nikola Kalinic (OVR 79 - 78) scored just two goals last season and is unlikely to remove Morata as starting forward.
