FIFA 19 Wonderkids: Best Wingers (LW & RW) and wide (LM & RM) players to sign in career mode

It is vital on your FIFA 19 Career Mode to have young stars coming through, and in an ideal world you want them to be good enough to pick up appearances straightaway. Wingers or wide midfielders appears to be the most likely position to find a wonderkid these days, with their raw talent combined with no fear allowing them to drive at defenders. Plus, almost all young wingers these days have pace to burn.

How to choose the best wonderkid wingers for FIFA 19 Career Mode

Here, we are looking at the best wonderkid wingers (RW & LW) and wide midfielders (RM & LM). Our wonderkids are players aged 16-19 who have overall ratings of 65 or higher, but with a potential of 80 or more. Players who are useful now, and can kick on to become some of the best in the world. 

On Career Mode, players can outgrow their potentials is they perform exceptionally well and get a length run in the team. Due to their talent however, young players can be pricey so make sure you are getting value for your money. In compiling our top 10 we have looked at player stats, potential and age.

Right wingers (RW)

One already world class player appears in the right wingers, as well as a youngster who has played professional football for four years already. 

Kylian Mbappe (OVR 87 – POT 95)

Age: 19

Positions: RW, ST

If you haven’t heard of Kylian Mbappe, just where have you been for the past two years? The 19-year-old burst onto the scene at Monaco in 2016/17 scoring 26 goals in all competitions to fire the Monegasques to the Ligue 1 title and Champions League semi-finals. At the end of that season he joined giants PSG on an initial loan deal, but with the obligation to a £140 million fee. Last year, the right winger or striker scored 21 goals, winning four domestic trophies before claiming World Cup gold with France over the summer. 

Mbappe, winner of the Best Young Player award at the World Cup, has an incredible 87 overall on FIFA 19, and this can rise to a potential of 95. This is the highest on the game, meaning the Frenchman can become better than both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo (both OVR 94). Stats of 96 acceleration, 96 sprint speed and 92 agility are frightening, and they will cost you around £100 million with wages upwards of £84,000 a week, although you will need to wait until January to sign him.

Martin Odegaard (OVR 74 – POT 84)

Club: Vitesse (on loan from Real Madrid)

Many would have expected Martin Odegaard to be emerging as a world class player by now, but it looks as if the Norwegian moved to Real Madrid too early. Now 19, the right winger made his professional and international debuts aged 15, before moving to Los Blancos six months later. He has been restricted to just two senior appearances for Real, however, and instead spent the last two seasons out on loan at Heerenveen. He looks to be getting back on track, and he will continue to build at fellow Dutch club Vitesse this year.

Odegaard isn’t a traditional winger but is technically exceptional with 85 ball control, 83 dribbling and 80 vision. Those stats contribute to a 74 overall rating, which can rise to a potential of 84. With Odegaard you will have to wait a year to sign him where you will be looking at a price close to £20 million and wages of £63,000 a week. 

Calvin Stengs (OVR 69 – POT 84)

Club: AZ Alkmaar

Best stats: 80 agility, 79 acceleration, 77 sprint speed

Wage: £5,000 a week

A man you may not be aware of is Calvin Stengs, who has played just seven games for AZ Alkmaar. The 19-year-old right winger shone during the 2016/17 season, scoring seven goals, but an injury ruled him out of the entirety of last year, and he is yet to return.

He won’t be injured on FIFA 19's Career Mode, so look to take advantage of the Dutchman by matching his release clause of £4.2 million. Along with wages of £5,000 a week you will get his 69 overall which can improve to an 84 potential. This comes with stats of 80 agility, 79 acceleration and 77 sprint speed. 

Left wingers (LW)

On to the left side of attack, and there are three names who have burst onto the scene over the past 18 months. 

Vinicius Junior (OVR 77 – POT 92)

Age: 17

Positions: LW, RW

Club: Real Madrid

Country: Brazil

Work rate: High/Medium

Best stats: 94 sprint speed, 92 acceleration, 90 agility

Cost: £41.2 million (release clause)

Wage: £75,000 a week

Aged just 17, Vinicius Junior already has over 70 professional appearances to his name having been tipped as the next big thing at Flamengo, making his debut aged 16. Ten goals and four assists over a season and a half at such a young age grabbed the attentions of Europe’s elite, as he joined Real Madrid in the summer. He's scored 3 goals and had an assist in four games so far for the B team, so a first team debut looks just around the corner. 

Attributes of 94 sprint speed, 92 acceleration and 90 agility for Vinicius provide him with a 77 overall. This can rise to a superb 92 potential, with the left or right winger’s release clause at £41.2 million. You will need to wait until January however to make a move, with his wages currently £75,000 a week. 

Ryan Sessegnon (OVR 75 – POT 88)

Club: Fulham

Ryan Sessegnon tore the Championship apart last season, scoring 16 goals and notching eight assists to win the league Player of the Season award. The 18-year-old left winger or left back helped Fulham win the playoffs, with his performances bringing him in to the conversation for an England World Cup call-up. 

Sessegnon has 87 sprint speed, 85 acceleration and 85 balance to give him a 75 overall. This can improve to an 88 potential, but you will need to pay around £25 million to secure him with wages of £29,000 a week. 

Justin Kluivert (OVR 75 – POT 86)

Positions: LW, RW

Club: Roma

Country: Holland

Work rate: High/Medium

Best stats: 91 acceleration, 88 sprint speed, 85 agility

Cost: £18.4 million (release clause)

Wage: £30,000 a week

Son of Holland legend Patrick, Justin Kluivert came through the Ajax academy to become a first teamer, scoring 11 goals last season. Those performances earned the 19-year-old first an international call-up in March and then a move to Champions League semi-finalists Roma for £15 million.

Left or right winger Kluivert can be bought for his £18.4 million release clause with wages of £30,000 a week. Attributes of 91 acceleration, 88 sprint speed and 86 agility provide the young star with a 75 overall rising to an 86 potential. 

Right midfielders (RM)

The wide midfielders have to be slightly more defensive-minded, shuttling up and down their flank. On the right side we have a Bundesliga regular supported by two other talented youngsters. 

Christian Pulisic (OVR 79 – POT 88)

Positions: RM, LM, RW, LW

Many regard Christian Pulisic as the best US player, aged just 19. The wide midfielder or winger signed for Borussia Dortmund in February and by the next season he was a regular starter. The US international has already chalked up over 100 appearances for the club, scoring 14 goals and creating a further 20. Nine goals and seven assists in 21 USMNT games isn’t a bad return either. 

Pulisic has a 79 overall on the game, rising to an 88 potential on Career Mode. Attributes of 93 acceleration, 90 sprint speed and 90 balance make him a weapon in the wide areas, which will cost just under £30 million with wages of £31,000 a week. 

Yann Karamoh (OVR 73 – POT 87)

Club: Bordeaux (on loan from Inter Milan)

Yann Karamoh had a tricky season at Inter Milan last year, making just 16 appearances and mostly from the bench. The 19-year-old right midfielder or winger had impressed in the previous season at Caen, scoring five goals and adding four assists for a struggling side. He can look to rebuild back in France with Bordeaux this year after scoring a goal on his debut.

France U21 international Karamoh has skills of 84 acceleration, 79 dribbling and 78 sprint speed on the game, which provide him with an overall of 73. With the potential to rise to 87, Karamoh is valued at around £8 million with wages of £26,000, but you will need to wait until next season to sign him. 

Ferran Torres (OVR 73 – POT 86)

Age: 18

Positions: RM, RW, LM

Club: Valencia

Country: Spain

Work rate: High/Medium

Best stats: 79 dribbling, 77 acceleration, 76 sprint speed

Cost: £14 million

Wage: £15,000 a week

Not a familiar name, Ferran Torres came into the Valencia first team last year, making 16 appearances, but mostly from the bench. So far, he has started two of the three La Liga games for Los Che, as he looks to rack up the appearances. 

Torres can play on either flank and as a winger, but doesn’t have the raw pace of others with 79 dribbling, 77 acceleration and 76 sprint speed. Those give him a 73 overall, rising to an 86 potential which should tempt you enough to make a £14 million move for the Spaniard with wages of £15,000 a week. 

Left midfielders (LM)

We finish with the left midfielders, with some talented players who are already making a mark. 

Ezequiel Barco (OVR 74 – POT 89)

Age: 19

Over in the MLS, we have Ezequiel Barco who has made a strong start to his Atlanta United career with five goals and three assists. Aged just 19 and having only moved in January, expect more to come from the Argentine, who can operate as a left or attacking midfielder as well as a striker.

Attributes of 90 acceleration, 85 balance and 83 dribbling take Barco to a 74 overall, which can rise to a potential of 89. The youngsters will cost you around £19 million with wages of £4,000 a week. 

Alphonso Davies (OVR 72 – POT 87)

Best stats: 93 sprint speed, 92 acceleration, 84 agility

Cost: £10 million

Wage: £3,000 a week

An absolute speedster and coming along at the right time with Canada one of the hosts of the 2026 World Cup. The 17-year-old Alphonso Davies has turned so many heads that he is on his way to Bayern Munich in January having scored 10 MLS goals in 77 appearances already, and three in seven for the Canadian national team.

The left or right midfielder has a 72 overall on FIFA 19, which should improve to a potential of 87. His 93 sprint speed, 92 acceleration and 84 agility will cause any defence problems, and should encourage you to make the £10 million move for Davies with £3,000 a week wages. 

Jadon Sancho (OVR 72 – POT 87)

Lastly, we finish with one of the brightest young talents from England, with Jadon Sancho taking the plunge and leaving Manchester City last season for Borussia Dortmund of the Bundesliga. The 18-year-old was handed the number 7 shirt and made 12 appearances last season. For England U17 he scored 14 goals in 18 games and was part of the squad that won the U17 World Cup in 2017.

On FIFA 19, left midfielder or winger Sancho has attributes of 90 agility, 88 acceleration and 86 balance. Those give him a 72 overall which can improve to an 87 potential, costing you his £13.3 million release clause and £15,000 a week wages on Career Mode.
