FIFA 19: Ligue 1 Team of the Season (TOTS) prediction

Proceedings are winding down in France with just two rounds of fixtures remaining in Ligue 1, but for some time now we have known Paris Saint-Germain are the champions. The Parisians have picked up their third title in a row, and currently lead the championship by 16 points, possessing far greater quality in all areas of the pitch than the rest of the division.

Lille must be commended for being the surprise package of the season, going from relegation candidates last year to finishing second this term. Lyon will be disappointed to have not put more pressure on the top two, with work still to do to hold on to a Champions League qualifying place.

Down at the bottom, Guingamp’s relegation has been confirmed, with Dijon likely to join them. Caen sit in the relegation playoff spot but are in fact level on points with champions of two seasons ago Monaco, who have endured a horrid season.

So, in a Ligue 1 campaign we have all struggled to put our finger on, who deserves a spot in the Team of the Season? A squad of 23 players will be released on FIFA 19 Ultimate Team, and you can get hold of them for yourself by hunting in packs from the FUT store, or trading on the transfer market.

RealSport looks at who could make the TOTS for Ligue 1.

A fantastic season for Walter Benitez at Nice has seen the Argentine linked with a move to the Premier League. The goalkeeper has kept a league-high 15 clean sheets this year and also has the best save percentage in the division at 81%.

Benitez’s 76 overall is likely to rise to a Team of the Season rating of 92, with his base card priced at 1,300 coins on PS4 and 2,500 on Xbox One. An 86 third in-form card for the 26-year-old costs 1,300 coins on PS4 and 2,500 on Xbox One.

Kenny Lala is another man who is rumoured to be on his way to the Premier League, with Manchester City apparently sniffing around the right wing-back. The Frenchman has been bombing up and down his flank for Strasbourg this year, scoring five goals and setting up a further nine. Only Teji Savanier, Nicolas Pepe and Angel Di Maria have more assists this season.

Lala should see his 78 overall improve to a TOTS 92, with his base card on the market for 1,300 coins on PS4 and 1,700 on Xbox One. An 87-rated fourth in-form item will set you back 113,000 on PS4 and 102,000 on Xbox One, whilst an 88 Headliners card costs 220,000 on PS4 and 197,000 on Xbox One.

Under threat from: Dani Alves (OVR 82)

Jose Fonte (OVR 78– TOTS 91)

Jose Fonte is still going strong aged 35, with the centre back providing a solid foundation for Lille’s fantastic season. As well as helping keep 13 clean sheets this season, the Portuguese international has chipped in with three goals, including one in the 5-1 drubbing of champions PSG.

A 78 overall for Fonte is likely to improve to a Team of the Season rating of 91, and you can pick up his base card in Ultimate Team for just 1,000 coins on PS4 and 700 on Xbox One.

Under threat from: Mathieu Debuchy (OVR 78)

Marquinhos has shown both his adaptability and leadership this season, having often played defensive midfield and skippering the PSG side 10 times under Thomas Tuchel. In 30 games for the Parisians this season, Marquinhos has helped keep 13 clean sheets and has also managed to find the opposition net four times.

Brazilian international Marquinhos should improve from 85 to 93 for the TOTS, with his base card priced at 13,500 coins on PS4 and 14,000 on Xbox One. An 86 Champions League item costs 19,250 on PS4 and 20,000 on Xbox One, with an 88 third in-form card from TOTW 29 worth 65,000 on PS4 and 70,000 on Xbox One. Very much in the running for the Ligue 1 Player of the Year prize, Nicolas Pepe has been the driving force for second-placed Lille with the Ivorian bagging 20 goals and 11 assists this term. A string of stunning performances has seen names such as Arsenal and Liverpool linked with the speedster, with Lille slapping a £72 million price tag on their main man.

Pepe’s 79 overall should rise to 95 for the Team of the Season, and you can claim his base card for 750 coins on PS4 and 700 on Xbox One. An 88 fifth in-form card for the right midfielder costs 66,000 on PS4 and 67,000 on Xbox One, with an 89 Headliners item priced at 80,000 on PS4 and 70,000 on Xbox One.

Under threat from: Memphis Depay (OVR 84)

Nabil Fekir (OVR 85 – TOTS 92)

After a move to Liverpool broke down last summer, Nabil Fekir could be on the move again after the Frenchman scored nine goals and picked up five assists for Lyon this term. His side just need three more points from their final two matches to secure a Champions League qualifying round place, but at the age of 25, it may be time for the OL captain to move on.

An 85 overall for Fekir should rise to a Team of the Season rating of 92, with his base card priced at 15,000 coins on PS4 and 15,500 on Xbox One. An 87 live Champions League item is worth 60,000 on PS4 and 69,000 on Xbox One, whilst his 88 in-form from TOTW 33 will set you back 112,000 on PS4 and 139,000 on Xbox One.

A surprise package, central midfielder Teji Savanier picked up the most assists in Ligue 1 this season, helping Nimes climb to seventh in the table. Aged 27, this is the first time Savanier has played in the top-flight, and he is even in the running for the Player of the Year prize, with six goals to his name this term.

Savanier has a 72 overall on Ultimate Team, which is set to be boosted to 93 for the Team of the Season. His base card is priced at 1,200 coins on PS4 and 1,500 on Xbox One, with an in-form 79 from TOTW 23 costing 37,000 on PS4 and 34,250 on Xbox One.

Under threat from: Houssem Aouar (OVR 78)

Neymar (OVR 92 – TOTS 95)

Neymar may have struggled with two significant injuries this season, but that did not stop the Brazilian bagging 15 goals and eight assists in just 17 appearances. The left winger will still look back at the campaign as a disappointing one, but if he can get back to full fitness next term, a greater Champions League fight is almost guaranteed.

Neymar’s 92 overall should improve to at least 95 for the Team of the Season, with his base card worth 228,000 on PS4 and 189,000 on Xbox One. A 93 LF in-form item from TOTW 3 costs 600,000 on PS4 and 583,000 on Xbox One, and a Champions League Team of the Group Stage attacking midfield card is valued at 1.3 million on PS4 and 1.2 million on Xbox One. The world’s most expensive player also has a 96 CAM Carniball item, costing 2 million on PS4 and 2.4 million on Xbox One, with a 97 Team of the Year card priced at 4.3 million on PS4 and 5.1 million on Xbox One.

Florian Thauvin has built on one impressive campaign with another, with the Frenchman registering 13 goals and eight assists in Ligue 1 this season. With 50 goals and 29 goals in his last three seasons and a World Cup win behind him, it may be time for the 26-year-old Thauvin to challenge himself and head to a European heavyweight.

An 84 overall for Thauvin is set to increase to a 93 TOTS card on Ultimate Team, with the right midfielder’s base card available for 6,900 coins on PS4 and 7,000 on Xbox One. An 86 ST in-form card from TOTW 11 costs 41,000 on PS4 and 43,000 on Xbox One.

Kylian Mbappe’s stock continues to rise, with the Frenchman adding third consecutive Ligue 1 title to his World Cup win. This season the forward has netted 30 goals and added a further nine assists, meaning he has eight more goal involvements that any other player in the division. Still aged just 20, this is only the beginning for the PSG superstar.

An 88 overall for Mbappe should rise to a 98 Team of the Season rating, and his position should move from right wing to striker. His 88 base card costs 181,000 coins on PS4 and 158,000 on Xbox One, with an 89 Champions League item worth 320,000 on PS4 and 359,000 on Xbox One. A 91 left wing FUT Birthday rating will set you back a massive 919,000 on PS4 and 819,000 on Xbox One, with a 91 striker in-form from TOTW 32 valued at 1.3 million on PS4 and 1.5 million on Xbox One. Under threat from: Andy Delort (OVR 75)

Edinson Cavani (OVR 89 – TOTS 94)

Aged 32, this looks to be the last season of a sharp Edinson Cavani, with the Uruguayan scoring 17 goals for PSG. Injury did reduce him to just 19 Ligue 1 games however, meaning he has 11 goals less than he did last year.

Cavani should still see his 89 overall improve to a TOTS 94, with his base card costing 49,000 coins on PS4 and 43,250 on Xbox One. A 91 second in-form item from TOTW 19 will set you back 110,000 on PS4 and 115,000 on Xbox One, with a live Champions League card valued at 184,000 on PS4 and 177,000 on Xbox One.
