The trend of athletic full-backs is growing with an emphasis on defenders being able to contribute at both ends of the pitch. Gone are the days of a flat back four with managers and FIFA players alike demanding their full-backs to overlap and join in the attack. Here is a breakdown of the best right-backs on FIFA 19 Career Mode.
Joshua Kimmich (OVR 85 - POT 88)
Age: 23Position: RBClub: BayernCountry: GermanyBest Stats: 90 Crossing, 85 Stamina, 85 Ball ControlCost: £61.5 million (release clause)Wage: £81,000
23-year-old Joshua Kimmich already has two assists in five games for Bayern this season showing how dangerous he is from wide positions. Kimmich has been utilised in a variety of positions but he seems settled at right-back for Bayern and is potentially Philipp Lahm’s long-term successor.
One of Kimmich’s main assets is his versatility, capable of playing in multiple positions in defence and midfield the German international would be a great addition to most squads. He will not come cheap though with a release clause upwards of £60 million but his wages are reasonable in comparison to the average Premier League wage.
Dani Carvajal (OVR 84 - POT 87)
Age: 26Position: RBClub: Real MadridCountry: SpainBest Stats: 85 Sliding Tackle, 84 Sprint Speed, 84 StaminaCost: £58.9 million (release clause)Wage: £180,000
Just two assists last season, it was Dani Carvajal’s least productive season since he joined Real Madrid in 2013. However, the Spanish right-back is still one of the best in his position and has already scored one and assisted one in five games this season.
Carvajal is an excellent all-round right-back on FIFA 19 offering plenty in both attack and defence. His 82 defensive stats make him a reliable defender and his ability going forward make him a real threat with 81 short passing, 83 crossing and 82 pace.
Sergi Roberto (OVR 84 - POT 87)
Age: 26Position: RBClub: BarcelonaCountry: SpainBest Stats: 86 Standing Tackle, 86 Short Passing, 85 Sliding TackleCost: £58.9 million (release clause)Wage: £180,000
Barcelona have struggled to find a replacement for Dani Alves since his departure but Sergi Roberto looks to have cemented his place at right-back. Barca splashed out on Nelson Semedo last year but youth product Roberto is ahead in the pecking order having started five out of six league games this season.
Also capable of playing in midfield, Roberto possesses great quality on the ball with 81 passing and is solid defensively with 86 standing tackle. The 26-year-old will set you back £58.9 million if you pay his release clause, but with some negotiation you may be able to purchase a solid right-back with 87 potential.
Kyle Walker (OVR 84 - POT 84)
Age: 28Position: RBClub: Manchester CityCountry: EnglandBest Stats: 93 Sprint Speed, 89 Stamina, 86 AccelerationCost: £39.9 million (release clause)Wage: £158,000
Kyle Walker was a key member of Manchester City’s title winning side last season contributing six assists in 32 matches. Walker showed his versatility during the summer as he was deployed as part of a back three for England at the World Cup where his pace allowed him to cover his defensive colleagues.
The 28-year-old possesses blistering pace down the right side and 89 stamina allows him to get up and down the pitch for 90 minutes. His release clause is reasonable but his wages may prove to be a stumbling block at £158,000 per week. It is likely only the top clubs will be able to afford him on FIFA 19's Career Mode.
Alessandro Florenzi (OVR 82 - POT 83)
Age: 27Position: RBClub: RomaCountry: ItalyBest Stats: 90 Stamina, 87 Volleys, 87 AgilityCost: £32 million (release clause)Wage: £64,000
Italian Alessandro Florenzi created five league goals for his teammates last season as Roma finished third and qualified for this seasons Champions League. The all-action defender contributes at both ends of the pitch for Roma and is a crucial member of their squad.
67 strength is Florenzi’s lowest stat showing his all-action ability. His 90 stamina and 84 pace enable him to effect both ends of the pitch, whilst his 82 long shots and 87 volleys make him capable of the spectacular. For £32 million, Florenzi could be a star for smaller clubs with European ambitions on Career Mode.
Thomas Meunier (OVR 82 - POT 83)
Age: 27Position: RBClub: ParisCountry: BelgiumBest Stats: 92 Stamina, 85 Strength, 83 CrossingCost: £35.6 million (release clause)Wage: £77,000
Two goals and two assists in five league games represent a phenomenal start to the season for Belgian international Thomas Meunier. He totalled four goals and four assists in Ligue 1 in 2017/18 so he is already halfway to last seasons contribution with an eye to surpassing it.
Meunier’s athleticism and physicality make him capable of playing multiple positions. He is 6’3” so FIFA 19 players will not mind using him centrally either in defence or midfield. His 92 stamina and high work rates will also interest Career Mode managers who can sign the 27-year-old for £35.6 million.
Kieran Trippier (OVR 82 - POT 82)
Age: 28Position: RBClub: SpursCountry: EnglandBest Stats: 91 Crossing, 88 Stamina, 86 CurveCost: £30.1 million (release clause)Wage: £87,000
Kieran Trippier enjoyed an excellent summer, the 28-year-old excelled for England at right wing-back contributing one assist and a superb curling free-kick goal against Croatia. The Spurs full-back created five goals for his side last season and already has contributed to two goals this campaign.
Trippier is not the quickest player on this list, but with 88 stamina he will certainly provide an outlet for the whole match. His 91 crossing will make sure he delivers excellent service to his forwards and managers on Career Mode should be able to afford him for just over £30 million.
Lars Bender (OVR 82 - POT 82)
Age: 29Position: RBClub: Bayer LeverkusenCountry: GermanyBest Stats: 88 Marking, 86 Standing Tackle, 86 InterceptionsCost: £25.4 million (release clause)Wage: £66,000
Lars Bender is another versatile player who is more than capable of playing in midfield. His strength is his tackling, he averaged three tackles per game in the Bundesliga in 2017/18. Bender assisted four goals last year, but he is more defensively minded than others on the list and does not offer the same threat going forward.
A reasonable release clause means that Bender may be available for around £20 million. His wages will not break the bank and he offers an excellent option as a squad player capable of excelling in a number of positions. His stand out stats are his defensive attributes which are rated 85 on FIFA 19.
Antonio Valencia (OVR 82 - POT 82)
Age: 33Position: RBClub: Manchester UnitedCountry: EcuadorBest Stats: 86 Sprint Speed, 85 Shot Power, 83 AccelerationCost: £20.4 million (release clause)Wage: £114,000
33-year-old Antonio Valencia has been a consistent performer at right-back during a turbulent time at Old Trafford in recent years. Valencia will want to contribute more than the one assist he managed last season, but he was a part of the second best defence in the league as Manchester United finished second.
Ecuadorian Valencia is a powerhouse down the right side with 79 strength, 81 stamina and 85 pace causing opponents real problems. At 33 he will not be signing any long term contracts but he could be useful as a quick fix on Career Mode, available for just £20 million.
Dani Alves (OVR 82 - POT 82)
Age: 35Position: RBClub: Paris Saint-GermainCountry: BrazilBest Stats: 87 Balance, 86 Ball Control, 86 Shot PowerCost: £7.8 (release clause)Wage: £55,000
Veteran right-back Dani Alves provided seven assists in just 23 games in his debut season in Ligue 1. The vastly experienced defender looks set to have his game time limited this season as Thomas Meunier appears to be Paris’ first choice under new coach Thomas Tuchel.
Alves’ contract is up at the end of the season and if he does not retire, then he still possesses the quality on the ball to cause a threat. A worry for Career Mode managers will be his deteriorating physical attributes which may mean he needs to be covered by more athletic defenders.
