So, this is it. The swansong of the season. The campaigns are over in the Bundesliga and Premier League, with some nervy moments on the final day.
Bundesliga veterans Hamburg were relegated for the first time in their history as Wolfsburg took the relegation playoff spot. A 3-1 loss to Hoffenheim almost dumped Borussia Dortmund out of the Champions League, and a big 6-2 victory over Hertha Berlin secured Europa League football for RB Leipzig.
Swansea joined Stoke in being relegated for the first time from the Premier League to drop to the Championship along with West Bromwich Albion. A Champions League fight was still at hand, but Chelsea’s 3-0 capitulation against Newcastle coupled with Liverpool’s 4-0 demolition of Brighton saw the Merseysiders safely through to the Champions League.
Just one round of fixtures remain in France, Italy and Spain, but the big news this week was that Barcelona’s unbeaten campaign in La Liga came to an end. Levante shocked us all with a dramatic 5-4 victory over the new champions, a heart-breaking end for Barca.
With the European season now just inches from being over, RealSport looks at who could make the FIFA 18 Team of the Week. 23 players will be selected on Wednesday, May 16 and can be challenged on Ultimate Team from 6pm BST. You can find the players in packs in the FUT store, and they can then be bought and sold on the transfer market.
Adrian (OVR 79 – IF 83)
Adrian has had a constant battle with Joe Hart for the goalkeeping spot at West Ham this season, but the Spaniard looks to have become the victor after a superb performance against Manchester United. The goalkeeper made six saves to maintain a clean sheet in the 0-0 draw, with the Hammers finishing the season strongly to rise to 13th place.
Adrian has a 79 overall rating on Ultimate Team, which could rise to a useful 83 this week. You can pick up his base card for 550 coins on both PS4 and Xbox One.
Kyle Walker-Peters (OVR 65 – IF 74)
With Champions League football already secured, Mauricio Pochettino handed Kyle Walker-Peters just his second Premier League start in Tottenham’s clash against Leicester. The 21-year-old right back rewarded his manager with two assists in the thrilling 5-4 victory, meaning Spurs held on to third place in the Premier League.
Walker-Peters’ surprise performance could make him a surprise call-up for the Team of the Week, and we expect his 65 base rating to improve to maximum silver 74. The defender will set you back just 350 coins on PS4 and 600 on Xbox One.
Kevin Malcuit (OVR 75 – IF 80)
Lille right back Kevin Malcuit matched Walker-Peters’ efforts by notching two assists in the 2-1 win over Dijon. Lille were firmly in the relegation battle prior to kick-off, but the victory shot them up the Ligue 1 table to 15th, and they will hope to get back to the top half of the table next season.
Malcuit’s efforts puts him in with a great shout for the Team of the Week where his 75 overall rating could jump up to 80. On Ultimate Team you will need around 500 coins on both consoles to claim him.
Lucas Lima (OVR 73 – IF 79)
Nantes left back Lucas Lima whipped in a brilliant free kick in the 2-0 win over Angers. The western France club had also been in danger of relegation this season, but the victory lifted them up to a respectable 14th.
Lima’s goal should take his 73 overall rating up to 79 if he makes the Team of the Week. The Brazilian costs 800 coins on PS4 but can go for as high as 4,500 on Xbox One.
Florian Thauvin (OVR 83 – TIF 88)
What a season it has been for Florian Thauvin. The Marseille right winger scored twice and grabbed an assist in the 3-3 draw with Guingamp, taking his personal tally to 26 goals and 18 assists in all competitions.
The young Frenchman’s 83 overall rating could rise to 88 if he were to receive a third in-form card of the season. Thauvin’s base card costs 3,900 coins on PS4 and 4,400 on Xbox One, and you can get his 87 in-form for 53,500 on PS4 and 46,750 on Xbox One.
Clement Grenier (OVR 75 – IF 82)
Clement’s Grenier mid-season switch from Lyon to Guingamp looks to have paid dividends, with the midfielder returning from injury to notch four goals and four assists in 2018. Two of those goals came on Friday night in the 3-3 draw with Marseille.
Grenier’s showing could take his 75 overall rating up to 82 for the Team of the Week. His base card is valued at 450 coins on both consoles.
Ayoze Perez (OVR 74 – IF 82)
Newcastle produced the shock result in the Premier League, claiming a 3-0 win over Champions League chasing Chelsea. Ayoze Perez was the star with two goals, securing a top half finish for the Magpies, a magnificent achievement considering the lack of transfer investment this season.
Perez’s two goals are likely to take him into the Team of the Week where his rating could rise from 74 to 82. The Spaniard’s base card is valued at 1,700 coins on PS4 and 2,700 on Xbox One.
Leroy Sane (OVR 84 – PTG 87)
Leroy Sane has had a brilliant season in Manchester City’s record-breaking campaign, with the German picking up the PFA Young Player of the Season award in the process. The left winger celebrated in style this week, assisting all three goals in the 3-1 win over Brighton on Wednesday.
Sane’s 84 overall rating should now rise to 87 for the Team of the Week, which would also improve his Path To Glory item. His base card is priced at 9,700 coins on PS4 and 8,500 on Xbox One, with his 86 in-form costing 138,000 on PS4 and 134,000 on Xbox One. His Path To Glory card is similarly priced at 139,000 on PS4 and 135,000 on Xbox One, whilst his 93 Team of the Season card will cost a massive 430,000 on PS4 and 400,000 on Xbox One.
Martin Braithwaite (OVR 77 – SIF 83)
Martin Braithwaite didn’t settle at Middlesbrough following his summer move from Toulouse, and he seems happier back in France on loan at Bordeaux. The attacking midfielder or striker scored twice and notched an assist in the 4-2 victory over his former club Toulouse to plunge them deeper into the relegation mire and keep Bordeaux just two points outside the Europa League spots with one game to go.
Denmark international Braithwaite could improve from 77 to 83 this week, and you pick up his base card for 850 coins on PS4 and 1,000 on Xbox One. His 82 in-form from when he was at Middlesbrough costs 13,750 on PS4 and 19,500 on Xbox One.
Jean-Kevin Augustin (OVR 72 – IF 80)
RB Leipzig’s 6-2 hammering of Hertha Berlin secured Europa League football for the East German outfit, and it was striker Jean-Kevin Augustin who was the star. The forward notched two goals and two assists in the big win as he looks to have displaced Yussuf Poulsen in the Leipzig line up.
Augustin’s 72 overall rating could receive an in-form boost to 80 on the back of his display, with his silver card priced at 1,500 coins on PS4 and 2,500 on Xbox One.
Emmanuel Boateng (OVR 72 – IF 82)
The star performer this week has to be Emmanuel Boateng. The Levante striker’s hat trick in the 5-4 victory over Barcelona ended the new champions’ unbeaten season at the penultimate hurdle. As for Levante, it’s hasn’t been a remarkable campaign, currently parked 15th in La Liga, making the victory all the more surprising.
Boateng’s heroics should take his 72 overall rating to at least 82 this week. His base silver card costs 700 coins on PS4 and 900 on Xbox One.
