1 - Van De Ven - 82 OVR - Tottenham

With an astonishing 88 pace in FC 25, it's almost impossible to outpace Van De Ven. The Tottenham center-back will be able to catch even the fastest strikers in the game.

But Van De Ven isn't only fast, as they also possess a great 83 defense and 81 physical ability. So Van De Ven is lightning fast, has good defensive awareness and tackling, and can also hold it's own against strong strikers.

As a starting squad center-back, there is none better than Van De Ven, especially for free-to-play players.

2- Lacroix - 76 OVR - Crystal Palace

The perfect player to partner up with Van De Ven is none other than Lacroix, the new Crystal Palace center-back. Lacroix is no stranger to Ultimate team veterans, as the French center-back has been one of the meta cards for quite some time.

Lacroix's 88 pace makes him incredibly fast, and just like Van De Ven, strikers will have a hard time trying to outpace him. However, he only has 76 defense and 77 physical, which is quite average for a defender.

3 - Ibañez - 80 OVR - Al-Ahli

Ibañez has a very well-rounded card in FC 25, with the Brazilian center-back having 85 pace, 81 defense, and 82 physical.

This means Ibañez excels at the three key attributes of a starting center-back, as he is quite fast, possesses good defensive awareness and tackling ability, and can go toe-to-toe with the strongest strikers in FC 25.

The fact that Ibañez plays for Al-Ahli will make it harder to fit him into most Ultimate Team squads. However, for players who want to build a hybrid or Saudi Pro League starting squad, he is perfect.

4 - Upamecano - 82 OVR - Bayern München

The years go by, but Upamecano continues to be one of the best starting squad center-backs in every EA FC edition. The French player has a solid 81 pace, 81 defense, and a spectacular 85 physical.

Upamecano has a solid card, and while the pace isn't fantastic, it's stil enough to not let opposing strikers fly by him. The Bayern München center-back physical ability is astonishing, and he will win most physical battles.

5 - Joe Gomez - 80 OVR - Liverpool

Joe Gomez closes out the top five and is yet another familiar face to the Ultimate Team veterans. Gomez has a very balanced card, with 82 pace, 80 defense, and 79 physical.

The Liverpool center-back might not excel at any of the three key attributes, but he is solid in all of them. Gomez is expected to be the cheapest player of the five listed in this ranking, which makes him a solid and affordable center-back.
