PG - Ricky Rubio, Utah Jazz @ Memphis Grizzlies
Rubio just continues to light it up for the red-hot Jazz. The sensational Spaniard recorded a 20-point, 11-assist triple-double last time out against the New Orleans Pelicans. He is now putting up 19.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 8.5 assists on 55 percent shooting (58 percent on 3-pointers) over his last six games, and has had at least 38 fantasy points per FanDuel in his last four. His price may have risen significantly, but he still stands to provide value as he goes up against a struggling Grizzlies team on the second night of a back-to-back.
Also consider: Ish Smith, Detroit Pistons vs Brooklyn Nets
Smith had a quiet game last time out as he had just seven points and seven assists in a blowout win over the Blazers. But prior to that game, Smith had put up 18.7 points, 3.7 boards, 6.0 assists, and 1.7 steals over his previous three games. Don’t be the least bit surprised if he manages to challenge those numbers tonight against the fast-paced Nets, who will be on the second night of a back-to-back.
SG - Jrue Holiday, New Orleans Pelicans vs Indiana Pacers
After a string of good but not great performances in recent games, Holiday finally broke out with a huge fantasy outing against the Jazz. He finished with 28 points - his highest-scoring game since DeMarcus Cousins went down - with five boards, two steals, and two 3-pointers. Now that he’s rediscovered his shooting touch, Holiday will have a perfect opportunity to put up another strong performance as he faces a fast-paced Pacers team that could be without Victor Oladipo.
Also consider: Lance Stephenson, Indiana Pacers @ New Orleans Pelicans
Speaking of Dipo’s possible absence, Stephenson would be one of the main beneficiaries fantasy-wise if the All-Star guard misses out. Stephenson had 13 points, nine rebounds, and six assists with two steals sans Oladipo against the Wizards, which was his second straight game of over 32 fantasy points. The Pelicans’ wing defense has been pretty dire for virtually the entire year so Stephenson has a great opportunity to capitalize.
SF - Andrew Wiggins, Minnesota Timberwolves vs Cleveland Cavaliers
This should be a no-brainer pick. The Cavs’ wing defense has simply been awful this year, and they showed it once again last night against Orlando. Jonathon Simmons completely tore them to shreds as he went for a career-high 34 points on 12-of-17 shooting. Wiggins has a lot of experience producing big-scoring games against the Cavs. He’s never scored below 20 against them in seven career games, and has three games of over 30. With the dysfunctional Cavs on the second night of a back-to-back, it would be more of a surprise if he didn’t go off for another huge game.
Also consider: Bojan Bogdanovic, Indiana Pacers @ New Orleans Pelicans
Bogdanovic went off for 29 points against the Wizards with Oladipo missing. He’s averaging close to 22 points over his last four games and stands a good chance of reaching that mark against the Pelicans. Even Joe Ingles was able to burn the Pelicans for 18 points and four 3-pointers from the small forward position last time out.
PF - Nikola Mirotic, New Orleans Pelicans vs Indiana Pacers
Mirotic wasn’t nearly able to match his fantastic debut for the Pelicans as he was held to a mere five points against the Jazz. Fortunately, he’ll have a much better matchup coming up next with the Pacers coming to town. The Pacers are giving up the second-most 3-pointers to power forwards this season, which should suit a stretch-4 like Niko perfectly.
Also consider: Domantas Sabonis, Indiana Pacers @ New Orleans Pelicans
Myles Turner has been struggling mightily over the last couple of games, which has opened the door for Domas to pick up some more minutes. If he does, he should be able to make the most of them as the Pelicans have been pretty awful themselves in terms of containing big men.
C- Andre Drummond, Detroit Pistons vs Brooklyn Nets
Drummond has been an absolute beast since the team traded for Blake Griffin. Dre’s putting up 18.8 points, 18.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.8 steals, and 2.8 blocks over his last four games. Lord only knows what he plans to do against an over-matched Nets team giving up the most fantasy points to opposing centers and on the second night of a back-to-back. It probably won’t end well for them, and very well for Drummond.
Also consider: Alex Len, Phoenix Suns vs San Antonio Spurs
Tyson Chandler’s absence means a lot more playing time for Len, who hardly featured in last night’s loss to the Lakers. Len had a decent line of 12 points and eight rebounds the last time he saw significant minutes. While the Spurs don’t offer much upside beyond that, picking up close to double-double numbers remains valuable, especially for a player of Len’s relatively cheap price tag.
