What makes a good centre-midfielder in FC 24?

Central midfielders are the clock to which your team ticks, as they play in the centre of the park. Some are more attacking, others are more defensive, but all usually share certain qualities and attributes in FC 24.

Thinking of the Ultimate Team card, centre-mids should have high passing, shooting and physical stats. Passing is the most important, as these players will be passing the ball more than almost any others on the pitch.

While high dribbling, defensive and pace stats can come in handy, they're generally not the most important to a CM's overall ratings as the others.

Best CMs in Career Mode

To start with, let's clarify which players are eligible for this article. This is for Career Mode only, so players who are included as Icons or Heroes in EA Sports FC 24 don't count, as well as women players, who have been added to Ultimate Team for the very first time!

Kevin De Bruyne (Man City - 91 OVR)

Kevin De Bruyne could count himself a little unlucky to not be receiving an upgrade given Manchester City's incredible treble last season. However, De Bruyne does start the game at 91 overall, making him the highest-rated CM in the game.

The Belgian is 32 years old at the start of EA Sports FC 24, so that rating could go down quickly. He'll still be a world-class player for at least another three seasons in your Career Mode, though. He'll set you back over £100m to buy in your first season.

Bernardo Silva (Man City - 88 OVR)

It says something about Manchester City's quality that the top two CMs are wearing sky blue. Silva is a highly versatile player who can really line up anywhere.

The Portuguese maestro has some great stats, with 95 agility, 92 balance, and 92 dribbling. He can weave his way through any defence and set players up from any angle.

Federico Valverde (88 OVR)

Another "line him up anywhere" player is Federico Valverde. Real Madrid has played the Uruguayan on the right wing as they are so blessed with talented CMs!

Valverde has had a big upgrade for EA FC 24. He now boasts 89 stamina, 88 ball control, and 87 short passing.

Luka Modric (87 OVR)

Of course, the little general had to be here! Modric is one of the reasons Valverde got shunted out to the right side. The Ballon d'Or winner might be entering his twilight now, but he's still got plenty of quality left in him.

Modric has 92 long passing, 91 short passing, 91 vision, and 86 crossing to be one of the best passers in the game. He's also got 92 agility so he can still get around the tight spaces of the midfield.

Frenkie de Jong (87 OVR)

Real Madrid might have the deepest midfield around but they aren't the only Spanish side that has an elite centre mid on the pitch. Frenkie de Jong has made the step up from Ajax to be a real string-puller for Barcelona.

In EA FC 24 he's a great all-around CM, with 82 interceptions, 91 short passing, and 89 stamina to get up and down the field.

Next, we will focus on the best young central midfielders in EA Sports FC 24. These are the players that have the highest overalls at the start of the game and are 21 years old or younger.

We'll start with the top five before covering five more in a table at the bottom. All of these players have huge potential and will improve a lot as the years go on.

Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid - 86 OVR / 91 POT)

The highest-rated young CM will be Jude Bellingham. At 86 overall, he's already one of the best central midfielders in the game full stop. At just 20 years old too, he's incredibly young.

You won't be able to sign him off the bat, as he's only just signed for Real Madrid, but even if you could, we could be talking about a player that could cost up to £150m!

Pedri (Barcelona - 86 OVR / 92 POT)

CMs thrive at Barcelona and Pedri definitely falls into that category. The young Spaniard is only 20 years old at the start of EA Sports FC 24 and like Bellingham, is already an 86 overall.

Pedri could cost even more than Bellingham, as his potential rating is one overall higher. Pedri could fetch over £150m to buy into your club.

Gavi (Barcelona - 83 OVR / 90 POT)

From one Barca wonderkid to another, Gavi will be a very exciting addition to any Career Mode save and has the potential to be one of the best players in the world.

At just 18 years of age, he has a good 15 years of development in him, which is simply incredible. He also has a face scan in EA FC 24!

Gabriel Veiga (Al Ahli - 78 OVR / 89 POT)

Newly transferred star Veiga has received a massive upgrade in FC 24 Career Mode up to 89 potential making him one of the best CMs in Career Mode. Rated 78 overall at just 21 years old, the sky is the limit for him!

Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool - 79 OVR / 87 POT)

Ryan Gravenberch made the move from Bayern Munich to Liverpool this year, and will finally see his career get back on track after not featuring enough in Germany.

At 21 years of age, he could develop into a solid Premier League CM for years to come, and a Liverpool Career Mode save could be fun as they try to catch up to Manchester City again.
