We will first start with the best & highest-rated defensive midfielders in EA FC 24 that you can sign in Career Mode who will bring instant quality to your team! They may not all be young talents, however, they guarantee you success on the pitch from the get-go, that is if you can afford them!

What makes a good defensive midfielder?

A central defensive midfielder may have different roles in a squad, or a player could have different attributes. Sergio Busquets for example is not the fastest player, he relies on his positioning to win back possession for his team. Whereas other players may use their pace and strength to force back possession. A CDM needs to be comfortable under pressure as they are the last line before the ball reaches the defence.

There was no CDM that had as much influence on their team's success as Rodri did last season. He is not the fastest player, with only 58 pace, but he has spectacular positioning and field awareness. Rodri's astonishing defending and physical attributes, make him the CDM every Career Mode player wants to have.

Casemiro (89 OVR)

Manchester United may have had a roller-coaster of a season but Casemiro kept his performances at a high standard. He is the perfect player to help United progress and is settling in well in the Premier League!

In EA FC 24, Casemiro has an 89 OVR, which makes him the second-best CDM in the game, only behind Rodri. Casemiro is a field general and a defensive anchor. If you want a player who can retrieve plenty of balls, intercept passes, and kill the opponent's counterattacks, Casemiro is your man.

Joshua Kimmich (88 OVR)

Bayern Munich icon, Joshua Kimmich is the third-best CDM in EA FC 24, with an 88 OVR. Kimmich is a very versatile player, being a spectacular defender, but also causing problems for the opposing team's defence.

Kimmich has fantastic passing attributes, meaning he is great with the ball on his feet, and can easily find an open teammate. If you want a CDM that can dictate the pace of the game, while also being a very solid defender, get Kimmich.

Sandro Tonali (86 OVR)

A big-money move from AC Milan to Newcastle United, Sandro Tonali is fourth best CDM in the game, with an 86 OVR. He is a well-rounded player with good pace, strength, passing and of course shooting and defending.

Tonali is a player you want to have on your team. He is still far from being in his prime, but his already an elite player at his position. What differentiates him from other CDMs is his ability to score goals, especially from outside the box.

N'Golo Kante (86 OVR)

Before moving to Al-Ittihad, N'Golo Kante had a tough season at Chelsea which caused him to be downgraded to an 86-rated CDM. However, he is still a powerhouse who will be a quality option in EA FC 24!

Kante has incredible stamina and is always at the right place at the right time. He is great at disarming opponents and launching counterattacks. However, don't expect him to score plenty of goals, as his finishing attributes leave a lot to desire.

A world-class talent who is a clear starter for Real Madrid and France. He is the full package with well-rounded stats he can do it all. Although he played many games as a LB for Real Madrid it is clear that his best position is at CDM!

Moisés Caicedo (80 OVR 85 POT)

After making a big money move from Brighton to Chelsea, Caicedo is set to help rescue Chelsea from their rut. Caicedo had a fantastic season at Brighton being one of the best-performing DMs in the league. He is the full package and can fulfil any role at CDM!

Joao Gomes (76 OVR 84 POT)

Joao Gomes is an incredibly talented player, that may be a hidden gem for most Career Mode players but he is 100% worth trying out. At the age of 21, he already has very nice well-rounded stats that could make the starting 11 for any Career Mode club.

Alan Varela (76 OVR 85 POT)

A true CDM, Varela has the stamina and defensive attributes to boss the midfield! He is best at sitting back and intercepting passes. If you are looking for a DM who loves to sit back, this is your man!

Nico González (76 OVR 83 POT)

Nico González arrived at Porto this summer and has already shown how much of a talented player he is. He possesses some great physical attributes which help him win most duels.

González also has great field awareness, which allows him to quickly understand where opponents are going to make the pass and intercept that ball.
