Demon's Souls Won't Use Ray Tracing

The launch of the next gen consoles, the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X, is right around the corner.

Both games have had a rocky start with their launch titles, with Xbox delaying Halo Infinite, while PS5 has delayed Destruction Allstars, arguably Xbox's delay is more harmful to the console's launch.

The stand out game for the next gen launch is definitely Demon's Souls.

Demon's Soul is a remake of the hit 2009 game that spawned the Dark Souls series.

With the news yesterday that Assassin's Creed Valhalla will run at upscaled 4K on PS5, there is another worrying sign that the PS5 may not be as powerful as the Xbox Series X.

No Ray Tracing

Both next generation consoles have heavily promoted the use of Ray Tracing.

But right out of the gate, Sony's top launch title is missing this feature.

In an interview with LevelUp, creative director Gavin Moore explained the decision.

"If we had implemented ray tracing in the game, that would mean that we would have had to leave something out,"

It was also revealed recently that Demon's Souls will feature 2 visual modes.

A cinematic mode which will feature native 4K/30fps and a performance mode which will utilise dynamic 4K/60fps.

CINEMATIC: Demon's Souls will not be able to run at true 4K/60fps.

Despite Demon's Souls being an impressive game, it is worrying that the PS5 isn't able to run it at native 4K/60.

This could be a sign of things to come, last gen we often saw the Xbox One play at 900p while the PS4 generally did 1080p.

Roles could be reversed this generation due to the Xbox Series X's increased performance.

The Xbox Series X's CPU is a 8-core Zen 2 CPU clocked at 3.8GHz, whereas the PS5's CPU is clocked at 3.5GHz.

Both consoles use AMD Navi GPUs, with the Xbox Series X clocking at 12 Teraflops, while the PS5 clocks at 10.28 Teraflops.

Although the PS5's GPUs Compute Units clock in at 2.23GHz, as opposed the Xbox Series X's 1.825GHz, the PS5 only has 36 compared to the Xbox's 52.

Everything To Expect From The PS5 Launch Title

The PS5 launch title will feature many improvements over the original version of the game.

In addition to cinematic and performance mode, there will also be a variety of filters and other options to tweak the appearance of the game, including making the game look like the Playstation 3 original.

Haptic feedback is also being intergrated into the game, this will allow players to feel their swords clash against shields.

3D audio will also be utilised in the game too, to give a more immersive experience when trying to survive.

Some of the UI elements have been tweaked to enhance the overall player experience.

The games morality system, World Tendency, was never really fully explained in the original, but it has been overhauled and made much clearer in the remake.

There will also be no difficulty options for the games, what you see is what you get, and prepare to struggle a lot.

The Souls series is known for its extreme difficulty curve, leaving new players to frustratingly get killed by enemies hundreds of times, often with long back tracks from their respawn point.
